Concept(Posted 2004-08-20)
The concept for this game is an undercover detective who has to go through a series of casinos to try to discover an undercover drug ring. Not only must he be good at playing the games, but he must meet many of the characters in the casinos winning their trust to reveal clues. Each character has a Dynamic AI that determines whether or not you gain favor with them. The more favor the more info leading you to the source of the crime...

Load Models / Load Tetures coded(Posted 2004-07-15)
I have now coded the load 3ds model and load texture windows, and tested them and they work great. I also added a window that tells the distance any object is from home plate, in order to get the correct home run distance. Numbers 1-9 and 0 are now hot keys that change the increment of your position scale or rotation to help you move quickly or get things exact. The stadium editor is almost complete.

My final two tasks are to finish the save/load feature, and to add the numerous premade objects to the menu. In the save option it is going to take a picture of the stadium for a distance that will show up in the selection menu when editing stadiums. Giving your stadium a nice preview screen. Once that is done, im going to create a bunch of objects necessary to create some nice stadiums, and maybe by this weekend I will have some screenshots of some real MLB stadiums just for looks.

Here is the latest screenshot:

Item Menu Working(Posted 2004-07-12)
I have reconfigured the stadium editor to use an object oriented system rather than an option oriented system, so that any stadium could be created. The Item menu now works and allows me to create multiple items and change their location, size, rotation, delete them, duplicate them, or import external 3ds files. Now that this is done, Im going to add the preexisting objects to the menu, create the save option and we will be on our way. Here is a screenshot of the item menu in action:

Re-Adjusting the stadium editor(Posted 2004-07-05)
I have figured out a better way to do the stadium editor and I am working on it now. Instead of having predetermined fences, crowds, backstops, etc.. Im creating the objects and setting the editor to load the objects in and allow the user to rotate / position them where he pleases. Im also adding a custom load menu so the user can load their own 3ds files making it possible to recreate any stadium. No graphics to show right now, but with this new way of doing it I think the stadium editor will be done much faster.

The big trick is figuring out how to make the crowd look nice.

Stadium Editor 15% Complete(Posted 2004-06-28)
Im 15% done with the stadium editor, it currently allows you to change your view on the screen, has 7 preset views, and then several modes to edit / add objects. Right now I have the field mode complete(choose from grass w/ grass infield, grass with sand infield, or astroturf), and I have started the fence mode, allowing you to do different backdrops or your old school little league fence backstop. Here are a few screen shots:

I hope to get the fence mode finished today which will include custom textures, and custom home run fences.

Stadium Editor(Posted 2004-06-26)
First up for me is the stadium editor. My goal is to create a dynamic stadium editor that would allow to create stadiums with preset models or by importing your own. The save sequence would save the list of models and coordinates for the models rather than save it to an actual file. Then the LoadStadium command would load those models before going into the game. At the end of the save the program will take a rendered screen shot of the stadium that will show up in all the stadium select screens, to show you what the stadium will look like.

Im going to start by adding some basics, and then trying to recreate all the major league stadiums. Once my feature set is full enough to recreate all the stadiums to some reasonable detail, Ill call it quits. Of course I cant send mlb stadiums with the game, but someone else can make them on their own. People make patches like that all the time. Heres another screenshot right before going to the editor:

Front End Graphics(Posted 2004-06-24)
I know I know, Im doing things Bass Ackwords. But because I want the baseball game to be fully customizable, im putting the tools i use to create stadiums, teams, leagues, logos etc, into the actual game, so that users can create their own stadiums etc without having to hack in. Because of this im goin ahead and creating the front end graphics and just adding features as I go. Heres the first look:

Game Concept(Posted 2004-06-23)
Im still looking for people who want to join the team, I could use another programmer and someone thats really good at 3d modeling. If anyone is interested email me at rob@....

I really believe that blitz3d has the capability to create quality sports games. Although it is impossible to meet the qualities of companies like EA who can do motion capture and 3d scanning, it is possible to compete with that market by offering a more affordable game, with better gameplay, and more customization.

Here are some of the features I plan to incorporate that will make this game different than anything else out there:

* Complete customization - The game will include a stadium editor, team editor, logo editor, and a league editor that would allow you to create any size or type league from your high school conference to a college league to the pros. Full customization means even though we dont have the MLB licenses, you can make patches on your own.

* Unique hitting system - Hitting factors will make this game the most challenging and unique ever. Hit placement and timing will be everything. Players will have unique swing speeds(I.E. Barry Bonds can swing in .8 of a second meaning he has longer to watch a pitch, where your no name player might have a 1.3 second swing, forcing you to decide ball or strike sooner). Players will be rated on a variety of hitting techniques from pulling the ball, to bunting, to sacrifice flies and more. Knowing your players means everything.

* Unique pitching system - control the pitch, location, speed, and spin you put on the ball. Throw killer curveballs at the cost of your pitcher getting tired sooner, or take a little off and hope it doesnt go out of the park!

* True player dynasty - Create yourself and start in a high school league and try to make your way to the pros. Infinite dynasties means infinite possibilites.

Just a few of my ideas.

Stadium(Posted 2004-06-23)
I have put a very basic stadium together which i hope to perfect this afternoon. It is currently using TAZ's field that he made as a model. I might need to tweak the perspective on the field as it looks a little off. Here is a screen shot:

Introduction(Posted 2004-06-18)
I've started working on a baseball project that would be fully customizable with stadium editors, uniform editors, and much more. I want to make an extended dynasty mode as well. But first thing is first, Im going to start by making a crude stadium and a player model. More to come soon.
