Monkey Targets Forums/iOS/anyone willing ?

Sup all.

I have an app on Android and I would love to see it on iOS, however I do not have a mac or a developer licence, and I was wondering if anyone here with the required stuff would be willing to take some of my code, compile it, and upload it to their dev account where I could then once approved download it to my iPad and more importantly my son can get it on his iPhone.

My app uses Admob, if that's a problem I will be more than happy to pull the admob code out.

Well.. if your interested let me know..

Might be easier to get it to your sons iphone using testflight:

@Beaker - sorry but how would that help? You would still need to compile the XCode project to create the IPA with the test device UDIDs...

This may sound dumb but why cant we build for mac on windows, yes of course we can load xCode, but why cant we actually produce the xCode source on windows, is there some reason this is not an option in the ide's ?

Mac build relies on Xcode, which is Mac only. Also Mac and Windows filesystems are different which can mess up Mac file permissions. It's usually best to compile for Mac on a Mac.

If you were willing to invest $99 you could get your own iOS dev access, and then use one of the rented online Mac services ( http://www.xcodeclub.com/ $44.95 for a month is good) to build and upload your games without needing to buy a full Mac. You could even sell them on the iOS App Store, and possibly make a profit.

If you absolutely can't do this then I could help you out.

I got this sorted, have a friend and fellow dev who's going to upload it for me which is really cool, once he re-installs monkey that is.

Paul,

I don't know if it is too late, but if you need I can compile your project in Xcode and send the Xcode project and iOS file to you. Just let me know what kind of target. iPhone 4, 5, iPad etc.

How is sharing of dev certificates , licenses handled? To upload it to the appstore you need to do it from a mac. To sign an app, you need to have everything installed. Wonder how you get this done when you do it for other people?

dawlane(Posted 2014) [#10]
@MikeHart: I believe you can do this if you sign up as a company, but not as a individual.
There isn't much information out there on the net.

Personally i think its cos apple are elitist nobends and they choose to make it this way; it also drives sales of mac hardware if you need it to develop for ios.

RDS(Posted 2014) [#12]
@ smilertoo: Your partly right, it is to sell hardware but you got the reason wrong. Apple is a hardware company; selling hardware is where most of their profit comes from. Also porting Xcode to any other platform would be a huge and expensive task; with no return since its free.
