Alternative app stores

Monkey Targets Forums/Android/Alternative app stores

This was something I wasn't really aware of until a few days back.. There are more routes to get your game/ app onto Android devices than just using Google Play. There are "alternative" app stores.

Although the Android world is moving very quickly (and so this is obsolete), I found this a very interesting article - http://www.drmop.com/index.php/2011/10/08/the-big-list-of-android-app-stores-where-to-sell-and-what-to-void/

My personal experience to date - first app released to Google Play just over two weeks ago, and has 69 downloads - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yzse&hl=en

Released the same app to the alternative app store SlideMe on Monday (under 3 days ago), and it has 400+ downloads - http://slideme.org/application/yikes-zombies-shoot-em

I'm now trying Appia and Mobango to see what they offer - have heard good things about the former

I will provide some more stats in a few weeks.

Cheers, all!

didnt know about SlideMe.. many thanks

Dont forget Amazon!
Over 50% of Android tablet sales are Kindle in the US (dont quote me on that lol)
But it is a huge market not to cater for

I haven't had much success at all with other Android app stores. I've tried AndroidPit, AndroidTapp and Amazon and all were pretty much a waste of time. Also if you go down the iap route on Android be prepared to write new code to cater for each different store!

Re: Amazon/ Kindle Fire.

I'd love to know whether my game works ok (or at all!) on this device. Anyone here got one? If so, what are your experiences with Monkey-produced-apps on Kindle Fire?

Cheers.

For me, I tried 3 stores:
1- Nook (2 devices in 1 country)
Free = 19000+ in 2 weeks
Paid = 2400+ in ~ 5 months
2- Amazon
Free = 12000+ downloads in ~5 months
Paid = 50+ downloads in ~5 months
3- Google Play
Free = 4100+ downloads in ~5 months
Paid = 4 downloads in ~5 months

@Aman, on this basis, sounds like the Nook and Amazon stores are well worth a go..

I'm creating an app store for my Kiddibook project if anyone is interested. Will be targeted at parents and their young children.
