From trying to install microsoft's offering and it failing at about 80% every time mingw would make a much better choice tbh it would also make it easier for people to get into monkey as its quicker to download and install.

fiddling with environment variables aren't exactly my cup of tea. What makes setting up minGW easier than running the vc express installer? Seeing the difficulties that people have had deploying glfw over the gnu toolchain, I'm not sure that messing with it is a good idea in the short term, though in principle I can understand the argument and agree that it would be nice to not "need" that sorta dependency to deploy to at least one desktop target.

Well tbh i didnt have any issues setting up mingw but the visual studio offering dies continously on my vista
