Does anybody know of a good free program for converting between audio formats? I've found a few decent ones but they're always trials which end after 14 days, or install some rubbish. Can anyone recommend something simple and free?

I normally use Audacity:

Awesome. Been messing around for weeks with different programs, this one didn't even appear on the searches but it's exactly what I was looking for! Free-source for the win! Why didn't I just ask on here in the first place? xD
Thank you :)

With audacity you can have multiple files open, change all to 22050 hz, then export. You can also go File -> Apply/Edit Chain to setup different export options. Unfortunately Audacity doesn't allow changing the rate in chain so you have to do that the other way.

Wavepad is quite good! I use it a lot for editing and so on. It's free:

+1 for Audacity. Excellent software

I was using Wavepad. I liked it, but then it stopped working due to the end of the trial period. Audacity looks fine though, does the job and it's free FOREVER, so I'm happy with it :)

I paid for Wavepad because it looked like it was more user friendly than Audacity. Now, a few months later, it stops working. Software said there was an update so I upgraded. Oh, nice v5.10 to v5.33. Wait, no longer activated? So I try to activate again... it says I need to pay again full price. WTF. Do not buy Wavepad or any of their other software ever. NCH Software is not a good company if they do this sort of thing. I have a feeling that a lot of people are more or less tricked into paying again over and over. Very exploitative and anti-customer.

Switch for Mac is quite good to batch convert between different formats:
