I would like to make A general editor
But first concentrate on Monkey.
I would like to lead the project and concentrate first on the
Concept first and not the technical specifics of monkey integration.

I really love to make stuff simple for users.
the thing is Im not so expirianced in programming advanced launguages like java c++ etc but

i have really good understanding of how things should be.
any way if i had the ability i would make a new editor.

any way i had to ask.

"Editor" is a pretty all encompassing term. I am guessing you mean a level editor, in which case I would recommend making some modules that worked with www.mapeditor.org

I ment Code Editor Like Jungle

AdamRedwoods(Posted 2011) [#4]
Jungle IDE is already made. Why do you want to create another?

hardcoal(Posted 2011) [#5]
hmmm I have my own demands..
but i admit i dont have the ability nor a good team.
just me and my dreams... for now.
but who knows.. maybe if ill make a start someone would find it intereting.
but not now

matt(Posted 2011) [#6]
I prefer to use my time to customise existing editors. A much easier task.

I've done TextMate/E! and Sublime Text 2 so far. Xcode next.

Tibit(Posted 2011) [#7]
What features would you want from an Monkey Editor? Anything you would like to share?

I'm asking since I am developing my own editor atm ;)

hardcoal(Posted 2011) [#8]
Wow. good luck first..

I have Ideas that are general concepts.
its hard to me to explain all in a short manor.

Its not specificly about monkey, its a general approch to programming.

I want to start with Flow chart to code Interface.
I want a multi window work space
a very graphical environment in general.
im building my own Gui in order to do so
but i cant do the coding for the launguage issue.
I have no knowledge on this.

I like to make things easy for the user.

look at Ideal editor you can see how convenient it is.
lots of buttons for folding and stuff.
a good Auto Indention options.

but still thats not what I want to make.

there are so many things i can come up with and I dont mind sharing it

anyway good news Tibit I know your editor will be good I can feel it :)

Xaron(Posted 2011) [#9]
Sounds to me that you want to create.some kind of a game maker. ;)

A good IDE like Jungle already is, is not an easy task. Don't underestimate the difficulties. Plus it is rather boring.

Third, your posting sounds like all the "I want to make a MMORPG like WoW and look for a team, want to be the leader with all ideas but can't program." No offense! That was my first impression only.

Xaron(Posted 2011) [#10]
Note to myself: I should not post before my first coffee...

Sorry for being that sarcastic in my last post, will give a better answer later...

clevijoki(Posted 2011) [#11]
If I was going to make an IDE for monkey I would start by making a plugin for eclipse.

hardcoal(Posted 2011) [#12]
Its ok... Also, I didnt underestimate Jungle IDE at all.
And I understand your point.
Im not offended or something.
Lets leave it as it is for now

ziggy(Posted 2011) [#13]
Plus it is rather boring
Boring? Not really! :D

Tibit(Posted 2011) [#14]

I know you were replying to hardcoal, but that is actually my aim long-term. However, first version will have basic features & intellisense.

And it is very graphical, icons on almost every option, and I also have lots of handy features. Even without intellisense the editor has an excellent flow. It has folding and auto-tabbing.

I focus a lot on Efficiency, Understandability & Usability. To rename a file for instance you simply double-click the filename in the tab --> and you can edit the file name: done. If the file is of another type, the editor switches syntax language.

I also imbedd the open source Chrome engine. So you can run html5 inside the editor itself :)

But don't expect a releaze til after the vacation though. Not working atm.

And, indeed it is a lot of work! This is why utoopia is delayed :)

And @ Ziggy, I agree, it can be quite fun! :D

xzess(Posted 2011) [#15]
Oh yes, i also love some Net stuff.
And its really not boring, i can agree to you
Just assigning the Property Grid to your own class is so sexy
I build a simple Game Editor for an old Project this way.

hardcoal(Posted 2011) [#16]
Xaron I do know how to program and no Im not looking to make a Game Editor..
Ive Said WoW becuase I was glad that another option will be made
besides Jungle. (sorry Zig :)
I dont really care how I sound, I know what I can do and I can do alot.
So keep your Sarcasm to your self. Cheers
