Hi,
I'm very confused. What's the status of monkey-x?

I see that monkey 2 is in development, what implications does this have if I buy a monkey 1 license? Is there an eta for monkey 2?

thanks.

You will find M2 at http://monkey2.monkey-x.com . It is freeware and looks like it is actively developed.

Thanks Mike. So M2 is a community project , branched from Monkey. Is is still in development or has there been a release?

on Monkey-X:
Is Monkey-X in active development ? The last tweet from @BlitzResearch was almost 2 years ago.

Mark yet again split this tiny community which is why this side of the site is all but totally dead now, and only a very few people use the new mx2 forum which is the new official thing from mark.

/me predicts mx3.monkey-x.com and a new forum and new site splitting the 10 active users down to 5, I wonder what mark will do when hes got 1 active user left, he might send some one round to saw them in half. LOL. I joke of course.

Haha Paul, you made me laugh. But yeah you're right.

@rootuid: MX2 _is_ the newest project from Mark, so it's not a community project. MX1 (Monkey X) so far is stable, seen as complete and will get bug fixes but no new features (beside this mojo 2 thing).

MX2 will be completely free, but you can support Mark via Patreon.

Monkey2 is already very stable and usable and is developing very fast. By no means it is finished ( if there is ever such a thing ) but it's a joy to play with. I was already able to do this with it:

Paul, don't tempt me. That was bad :-)))))))) And I can see who this will be :-))))

The stats on my Monkey example blog show there are no less visitors then two years ago. Monkey 1 is not dead yet :)

I am not doing any programming for a longer while since I am trying to get better and more productive with pixelart. I have not found anything better than what blitz research has for programming. If it gets 3d than it might even be harder to find something else.

I'll continue supporting Mark Sibly until either of us die...
He is a genious you know!

zxretrosoft(Posted 2017) [#10]
I'll ask you another way. It is important to future learning MonkeyX, or should I concentrate exclusively on Monkey2?
(With MonkeyX I am satisfied. I just worry that the future has only MX2.)
Thanks!

Monkey 2 wil probably get more useable this year. There is a new release said to come soon. I personally stopped using monkey 2 and got back to mx1 becourse of its current state.

Waiting to see what happens with MX2 and mobile, iOS and Android.

I have a few MX projects I'd like to take further but the Java output on Android really holds things back for some 3D OpenGL and performance based games I've half built. And starting a NDK MX target seems like a bit of a dead end, considering I've asked for guidance on how but haven't found it (I know Android and NDK, just unfamiliar with how to build a custom MX target).

M2 looks promising but still in a too raw form and doesn't work on mobile in both platforms.

So going back to C++ based projects for now.

Thank you for your feedbacks.
In my opinion, is not good for marketing to maintain de facto two languages MX1 and MX2. I can't imagine that that's how it worked for example DarkBasic, eg. DB1 and DB2...
But it depends on the author. I think it would be better to develop it as a MonkeyX. Continuously.

I'm still actively coding (albeit just within the HTML5 target) within MonkeyX and am very impressed with what can be achieved. You can compile in HTML5 for free within the 'free' version of MonkeyX, so there is no outlay required to give it a go. Sure, I took a little while to commit myself to using MonkeyX, but life commitments amongst other blah got in the way.

I really like the way MonkeyX works, there are still active users here willing to help move your code forwards when you get 'stuck'. I think its great Mark is developing a new product as well (Monkey2), he is moving forwards, which is what we all aim to do. Monkey2 may well have a 3d element to it in Development now, which will separate it from MonkeyX somewhat more. Choice is a good thing at the end of the day.....
