Am I going crazy? I'm sure the iTunes store used to tell you this when you searched for games - but I can't seem to locate the info anywhere.

e.g.: https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/candy-crush-saga/id553834731

No I'm not writing a Candy Crush clone, just trying to find out where I can get download info so I can compare what I'm writing to a similar game that is available on iOS

If the ITunes store ever gave out such information, then it was before 2011. I never saw this there. The Google Play store had some indicators about download (range category) in the past, not sure if it is still the fact.

Arabia(Posted 2013) [#3]
Yeah Google Play still provides it, it is a range something like

< 100
100-500
500-1001
1000-2000 etc...

not sure of the exact ranges.

I'm positive iTunes did it, but I might be just thinking of Google Play.

You can of course search iTunes by popularity which I'm guessing is by number of downloads, but again it doesn't tell you how many people have downloaded it and number of reviews doesn't seem to be what they mean when they sort by popularity.

I have split one of my apps to iPhone and iPad. Usually iPad is around 1/3 to 1/5 of the iPhone downloads in my case (a card game).

BTW: There is some nice statistics page where you get rough download numbers for iOS apps: http://xyo.net/

Actually the numbers are pretty close - in my case and others I know!

I see stats here for Android, but the when I enter the name of the iOS game it doesn't appear in the list :S

i.e. http://xyo.net/android-game/candy-crush-saga-nPYSB24/?country=AU shows only Android ratings (and I'm guessing downloads also)

You have to select iPhone from the dropdown on the left side of the search field. ;)

It's possible that the half bottle of vodka has clouded my understanding tonight LOL.... found what I was looking for - so a game similar to what I'm designing has 20k+ downloads at $0.99 and another similar game has 10k+ downloads on Android ad supported, so looks like I might get a few bucks out of this :)

Thanks for the link and for explaining my mistake :)

Xaron(Posted 2013) [#8]
HA! You're welcome and good luck with your game!

...but ... Candy Crush has more than 20k downloads! Oh well, I guess that's not what you're looking for, mhh? :D

Nah, Candy Crush as a couple more d/s than 20k LOL - the figures I quoted were for a similar type game to what I'm writing :)

That site is completely bogus - I looked up my "Escape from Alcatraz" game, and it shows way more downloads on iOS (shows 32k against *16k*, the real number) - even android/google play it is off.

Not to mention you can get much more downloads on other stores, which are not tracked by those sites...

(Btw: my game has reached over 100k downloads overall, so you can see how those sites can be way off when trying to figure out number of downloads)

Xaron(Posted 2013) [#11]
Of course it's off but the rough direction is correct.
