Hi all!
This is my first post, only to say hello to the community. If this isn't the place to open a topic like this, tell me and I'll delete it.
I'm coming from Stencyl, a very good program to make games very fast, but I feel that I need to get more control over my games, as some times with Stencyl I'm limited somehow. I consider myself more an artist than a programmer, so this is the reason for what I have chosen to try to learn Monkey, as it looks like a "reachable" language for me.
If you are interested, you can see some of my games on my website (arscreativa.com), I hope to raise the level with Monkey.
See ya!

Welcome! You will find a friendly and helpful community here. Monkey is really great, I have tried many languages over the years and it is one of my favorite.

Hi Mike, I have just bought your book to start learning!
Now I'm interested on Flash and Android. I have a game in the AppStore on iOs, but Apple publishing policies can really drive me mad XD.

Welcome mate, you made a good choice! :)

Sammy(Posted 2013) [#10]
Welcome! :D

Game devs are always looking for a good artist, so you'll be a popular guy I am sure! ;)

Welcome! You may find Monkey a bit "lower level" than Stencyl (as in you will actually be doing a fair bit of coding), but I'll bet you that if you stick with it, you will be pleased. :)

This community is very helpful, so don't be afraid to ask!

Be sure to at least check out:
IDEs:
Jungle - Windows only
Mollusk
JumpIDE

Frameworks:
Diddy
Fantom - especially since you are reading Mike's book
Ignition - not free, but great

Skn3's Modules
miniB3D 3D engine - if you are interested in 3D

There are many other fine modules / etc. as well!

Go go go! :)
