Royalty Free sound effects and music?

Anyone know of a good source for royalty free sound effects and music for commercial release that could be use for monkey app development?

There are a few files included in the examples, are those available to bundle in a commercial monkey app?

Those would be in the ..\bananas\mak\audiotest\ folder, files are happy.*, shoot.*, and tinkle.*? I know that is not enough to make an award winning app, but it is a start :)

mate getting sound and music is easy you just need to be creative in how you make it.

I often spend hours in a quiet room with random objects and just mash things up with my mic on record, a lot of my sound effects are things hitting my desk, or me dropping stuff on the floor with a slight change to their tone or pitch in a tool called Audacity.

For music, I have used everything from Dance EJ, to those little flash apps you find around the net that let you make 3 second long bit tunes, one 3 minute track I made was nothing but 12 3 second long bit tunes I sampled from that flash app, and just ordered together, again in Audacity.

as long as it sounds nice no one cares where it comes from, and I bet no one ever knew that most of my fx were either my own voice making random noises, or stuff like a ball, apple, gamepad hitting my floor, wall, desk, hand etc..

I think they actually call this folio or something they use this technique in movies, so if its good enough for them its good enough for us.

LOL! Yea, I thought about doing it that way, makes sense and don't have to worry about licensing issues, they can't copyright the sound of a dropping apple, um, unless it is an Apple, Inc. Apple that is :), Cheers!

This is ok for cheap 99c tracks

also this which is free but he requires credit if you use his music. No prob really just add music by **** in your app.

for sounds i do the same as taiphoz or use a vst synth with flstudio called synplant. Here is a small collection i made from sysnplant

i will update this soon as ive created many more sounds eg bangs, laser, explosions and most of the ones used in games.I will also catagorize it and save them as ogg files to save space. If you have any special sounds you want i will attempt to create some as i quite enjoy messing about with this synth for a couple of hours.

A nice tool for creating sound effects:

Here are the only sources I really need (web based version of sfxr)
Creates awesome sound effects.
I just use the stand-alone sfxr, but this web one has more features.

Then for music, my personal favorite resource: (Kevin MacLeod)

I've recently found this site:

And I've been using Kevin MacLeod's music for years now :)

Thanks dave.h for posting the zip file with some of your collection, not looking for anything in particular at the moment, if you do add some more let us know. This will be fun to test out some ideas, much appreciated. Thanks to everyone else that posted links and ideas, good stuff! Cheers!

ok yeah I know I am late to the game, but speaking as some one who normally does all their own FX this tool is bloody brilliant.

I can tell its been used a lot, but hay, when it makes nice sounds that fit the game your working on why the hell not.

Wish there was more stuff like this around lol, I wouldnt need to bash random stuff off my desk to make fx.

AndroidAndy(Posted 2012) [#11]
@Taiphoz,, what can I say, that is sweet and simple, thanks for the link!

I've bought some royalty free music from it was actually really fun.

I also bought a few sfx packs from here - as well as a really cheap collection of 3000 questionable sound effects (which I am actually apprehensive about using in a commercial release now!)

If you're into 8-bit chiptunes, this guy is awesome. I'm using one of his albums right now for a project i'm working on.

For sound effects besides that BFXR tool, i always play around with these :

AndroidAndy(Posted 2012) [#14]
@raz - The sfx packs seem quite good from the preview, not sure about the 3000 sound effects, that "sounds" too good to be true. Just have to be careful about the commercial license, the audiojungle charges 5 times the cost of the regular license and the license is only good for 1 game.

@Neuro - Good stuff, thanks for the links. Not sure on the grsites sounds though, they say it is a collection of "free" sounds from around the net.

Raz(Posted 2012) [#15]
Hiya Andy, yeah it was the first time I've ever sold a game so I was very twitchy about making sure I was ok license wise, I licensed the music with the intention of using it in one game only and as for the 3000 sound effect pack ( ), I think I'll leave that to one side and pretend it never happened!

AndroidAndy(Posted 2012) [#16]
@raz - lol, thanks for the link, definetly want to stay far away from the 3000 sound effect pack, not legit for sure.
