BMax IS a current product. I dont' see any reason to make it 'free and open': I'm sure there is a market and some % of the revenue for BRL derives from it. MonkeyX cant' do all that BlitzMax currently is doing. Maybe in future, but at the moment BlitzMax is a valid solution for desktop targets. I still think that SteamOS is a *valid* target... none invests time, money and resources just for fun, neither Valve software: and BlitzMax is *quite* ready to run on it, I think. So it will be a blind choice drop BlitzMax at this point...
Blitz3d is 'old': the language itself (very poor OOP for example, no lists or maps...), the engine and the 'target' are designed for another era. Yes, you can do still many other things (HardWired is a 3d engine running DX9/DX11) - but it is something 'external' to the language itself - the limits of the language remain. So, or BRL creates a Blitz3d v2 with a modern engine (...) or release it as opensource.
