Crypt of the Necrodancer is one of the finalists in "Excellence In Design" category this year on IGF!

Those who don't know, it's a game made in Monkey!! :)

spintop(Posted 2014) [#2]
It is a famous game. Well done.

putting the headache inducing bounce aside for a second, I love the music, the art and the over all polish of this, it deserves its mentions.

Supertino(Posted 2014) [#4]
Proof if it were needed Monkey in the right hands can do some wonderful things.

John McCubbin(Posted 2014) [#5]
Sweet stuff, looks good and the music centric gameplay reminds me of beatbuddy.

Thanks very much, guys! We're pretty excited to have been nominated :)

We've heavily hacked Monkey to make it more viable for our purposes, FYI. We're using DirectX on Windows (there are just too many driver issues with OpenGL on Windows, as we mentioned previously -- hopefully Mark is listening), and FMOD for audio (OpenAL just has too many quirks and flaws). It has been a bit of a pain, but hopefully when it comes time to port to other platforms in the future, the investment we've made in using Monkey will pay off.

Oddball(Posted 2014) [#7]
Congrats! Guessing you'll be at GDC then, hopefully see you there. We should have monkey users meet up/drinks night at GDC.

SLotman(Posted 2014) [#8]
... We're using DirectX on Windows...

Have you guys made a custom target? I was thinking about doing it, but I couldn't find time to do it yet...

SlopeOak(Posted 2014) [#9]
Yes, we'll be at GDC! Hope to see some of you there!

And yes, we made a custom target. We'll release it at some point when we have time!

Congrats!

SlopeOak(Posted 2014) [#11]
Thanks! We shot straight to #1! Woo :)

Why0Why(Posted 2014) [#12]
Hey Slope. Would you be willing to share some of your experiences? Coding a game of this scope in Monkey? Early access? Steam integration? Just anything that you are willing to talk about would be appreciated.

SlopeOak(Posted 2014) [#13]
We'll probably do an AMA on Reddit soon! Kind of swamped right now with post-launch madness :)

tiresius(Posted 2014) [#14]
Congratulations this is awesome! I love rogue-likes and yours looks fun.

I know you deserve all credit but...
for the love of all that's good in the world, please promote the heck out of Monkey in your interviews and postings! :)

therevills(Posted 2014) [#15]

therevills(Posted 2014) [#17]
Just been playing it - great little game, good job!

Why0Why(Posted 2014) [#18]
I am going to pick it up today and hopefully get a few minutes to play this weekend. Congrats on the success! Are you interested in sharing sales? At number 7 on top sellers currently. I know it was number 1 last night. Very awesome!

grovey(Posted 2014) [#19]
This game is awesome, but man, it is brutally difficult.

This game should somehow get on the front page of this site. Good stuff :)
