Tiny Speck, Inc. has released all its game assets for it's game Glitch into the public domain. Most are Flash format, so a bit of format conversion will be needed for Monkey. But there's a lot of quite nice 2D artwork here which could be used for prototyping at the very least. See http://www.glitchthegame.com/public-domain-game-art/

I just noticed a lot, if not all of these assets have been converted to PNG's over at www.opengameart.org (Do a search for "GLITCH").
