So, as the topic title suggests, what tools / software do you use to create 2D animations? Right now I'm hand-drawing, scanning, then editing in Photoshop. |
| ||
why are you scanning them? Get a tablet and draw directly in Photoshop. There are a few programs out there most commonly used are Photoshop and flash. but there are some specialized ones such as CTP |
| ||
Daz Studio. |

Well I have a decent tablet. But my drawing skills are...sub par using it right now. I find it hard to be precise with it. So instead I've been hand-drawing and using quite a bit of tracing paper. |

I have never used Adobe Illustrator but my son says he likes it better than Photoshop because it removes all of the jagged edges of the lines while drawing. it might be something you might want to look into for drawing with a tablet. So instead I've been hand-drawing and using quite a bit of tracing paper. do you know how to use layers and pen tool? That will save you a lot of work. check out this tutorial: |

GraphicsGale is a cheap 2D Pixel Pusher with Animation capabilities. I use it daily. There is a free version and a paid version. http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/us/ |

@Volker, I'snt Daz Studio only for 3D? @Jesse: You mean removes jagged edges from a unsteady hand? That sounds pretty useful. |
| ||
Jesse, that youtube link doesn't seem to work. |
| ||
sorry. miss copied the link (fixed now) You mean removes jagged edges from a unsteady hand? yes. |

I'snt Daz Studio only for 3D? It's meant to create 2D animations from 3D. You take the model, animate it and export as png. You can search Google Play for "memo match animated cartoons" to see what is possible. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=V_d7mhdzQrM |

I use GraphicsGale as well. It's really good for 2d pixel work! |
