2. Bash and Korn Shell Scripting with a slice of C
3. Ant

and more importanly Play :

Also gotta mention BlitzBasic 2.1 - spent a fair old swedge of time on that a few moons ago.

Also, whats your fave IDE's ?

1. IDEal

@BP - Surprised you class Ant as a programming language.

Blitzplotter(Posted 2017) [#5]
Yeah, used it briefly to glue a lot of disparate database crap together in what I could quite probably classify the most stressful job in my life. Incidentally I don't earn a living from software blah these days ;)

Visual Basic classic, VB.Net, C# for earning a living and fun.

Blitz3d and Max for fun. Unity too.

Oracle forms and reports, PL/SQL, and countless others for work.

Neuro(Posted 2017) [#13]
Work :
1. JavaScript
2. C# (.net)
3. VB

Fun :
....haven't used coding for fun in a while...

Blitzplotter(Posted 2017) [#14]
@Neuro, my 'fun' from home hobby coding comes from analysing training data from a GPS device. Ultimately pretty geeky, but I do get satisfaction from achieving what seems like the nigh on impossible as an indie, and all thanks to BRL s impressive software tools. Happy coding folks ;)

@Steve, impressive list of basic tools there!

Steve Elliott(Posted 2017) [#15]
@Blitzplotter, thanks. I do like to try-out new languages :)

Blitz BASIC - Brilliant And Superior Intuitive Coding.

Although, not necessarily when I'm coding it....

Bobysait(Posted 2017) [#17]
work :
1 - c++
2 - java
3 - javascript

play :
1 - blitzmax
2 - javascript
3 - blitz3d

ide :
1 - notepad++
2 - sublime text
3 - atom

Blitzplotter(Posted 2017) [#18]
@Bobysait - Notepad++ is my 'goto' scratch pad when I don't need code folding. Briefly tried sublime - atom is/seems more intuitive with its add on management.

Bobysait(Posted 2017) [#19]
Well, I have a plugin for notepad++ which allows me to fold blitzmax code, so, on windows it used to be my main "IDE" (I had encountered several bugs with blide, like crashes and syntax errors) for blitzmax

Then, for portability, I used sublime text which works on mac and linux, but I can't get the plugin working efficiently on mac, so ... I'm still locked with the MaxIDE on OSX... and that's a shame ^^

For any other languages (web [html/js/etc...]), I use Atom

Henri(Posted 2017) [#20]
Hi,

for work & home:
BMX, SQL, C/C++ with dash of various others

For IDE I currently use Munch's enhanced version of MaxIDE which is Windows only I presume, but the scintilla plugin might be replaced with wxMax version scintilla that is multiplatform wrapped already. Maybe I'll look into it.

For C & Various editing I have used Notepad++ , but recently found Dev-C++.

-Henri

If you had to start over again for work which language would you pick?

Matty(Posted 2017) [#25]
Japanese.....ha ha ha or maybe Mandarin....

Blitzplotter(Posted 2017) [#26]
Easy, Blitz3D - the language of the gods ;) Although, when I started 'work' I think I would've had to settle for assembly or C still....

Winni(Posted 2017) [#27]
If you had to start over again for work which language would you pick?

Well, that's the unanswered question, isn't it? Most likely one of those three:

Go.
Python.
C#.

gpete(Posted 2017) [#28]
top 3 at work:
---oldest!- GWBasic (wrote a shipping label print app- (replaced manually typed labels)

---cool!- In Turbo C wrote a network video News Feed program with early Jpeg support for broadcasting over our LAN. Also a video titler..

---very useful! Visual Basic for Applications(Excel) multi-year daily Gannt timeline chart and labor resource charting program- showing weekly progress and trade skills requirements. Plus many, many smaller custom programs & modules-

fun stuff-
Sinclair Basic & C64 Basic(and Abacus Pascal and Super Basic!)
Amos on the Amiga
Visual Basic
Power Basic
Blitz3d-Blitz Plus-Blitz Max and now Monkey..
Nuclear Basic
LSL and Mono for OpenSim and SecondLife

Steve Elliott(Posted 2017) [#29]
One thing this thread does bring out, what a shit name Monkey is in comparison to some strong names here lol.

Blitzplotter(Posted 2017) [#30]
Aaaw, Steve, c'mon - Monkey's actually growing on me in the time I've spent with it (not just as a compiler, the names not to bad) - even though I've mainly compiled in just the HTML5 target.

@gpete, yes, Sinclair Basic - where I first marvelled at what could be achieved with a little imagination and some perseverence. Here's a Spectrum in javascript of all languages - how things have3 changed:

I am currently working 18 hours a day. It's two jobs, one 12 hours and another six. I think I'm forgetting to schedule.

How much sleep do you get? 3-4 hours?

Naughty Alien(Posted 2017) [#33]
Yue is a bb superhero. Do not forget that. :)

RemiD(Posted 2017) [#34]
or maybe a bs super man ;) (at least i hope for him, else his lifestyle is really bad (imo))

RemiD(Posted 2017) [#35]
oh i have not answered the question :

for work (in the past) :
php html css javascript
blitzbasic

for fun :
blitzbasic (the last man standing lol)

Blitzplotter(Posted 2017) [#36]
Yue is a bb superhero. Do not forget that. :)

I second that ;)

[EDIT] And, as for Atom (with Monkey...), you can have multiple panes open. When ready to compile, open your monkey file within TED, compile it - any compile errors - no bother - just modify the hi-lighted issue within TED and...

ATOM is clever enough to auto update all copies of the file (within 1 or more panes) to reflect the modification you've just mad within TED, which is pretty cool.

shaun freeman(Posted 2017) [#37]
My zx81 for z80a assembly (too hard at 16 years old!) (1982!)
my BBC B for basic maze games I coded back in late 80s
Amiga 500 - microsoft basic for my first stab at othello..
plus AMOS - AMOS3D plus compiler - never coded anything fast enough!
Then the big box version of Blitz - incredibly fast with enormous manual

Blitz3d and Blitmax on PC - still brilliant!
Unity for VR now...but C# is a struggle...but easier after learning oop on blitzmax and to some extent B3D..

Yue(Posted 2017) [#38]
I have two jobs, one is a watchman. And another is a cleaner.

Today I have to start at 10 o'clock pm, I work in the colpatria tower of Bogota, and I have to clean the windows, it will be a very long night.

About sleep, I sleep in the public transport and in the work of vigilante at dawn I get to sleep another bit.

: D

Bobysait(Posted May) [#39]
let's cross some data

Yue is a bb superhero. Do not forget that. :)

or maybe a bs super man

I have two jobs, one is a watchman. And another is a cleaner.

Watch ... then clean ... ok
Well ... Yue is not a super hero, I think he is a serial killer or a hitman
