Hi everyones,

In this game, Candy and Noopy received
a gift from the Lillians:
a Spaceship !

- The Official Candy in Space I, II, III Worklog -

Then this game itselfs takes place in space
and on various planets of a solar system
composed of 63 planets and Asteroids.

Lately, I succeeded into adding collisions to the
Helper, the second player. The Helper can go
everywhere, even in the second floor
of the Candy's House.

I'm presently working on the next part
of this game who are consisting of
new missions to resolves.

First Version published on Showcase:
- Official website of Candy in Space III v1.55 -

Hope you'll appreciate
our new game.

Candy Goes to Space
or Candy in Space

would be proper English, but Candy to the Space sounds odd.

Amon(Posted 2012) [#6]
but Candy to the Space sounds odd.

May be it's correct because candy is told to attend the Universal Beegees event in the space Dancefloor where they play beegees.....beegees...beegees. yay...

I like beegees.....they're bee and gees. Oh candy is cool also.

MadJack(Posted 2012) [#7]
Xylvan

Have you considered a game where Candy or Noopy get shot out of a cannon at a building?

Dabhand(Posted 2012) [#8]
Just watched the video... Few things:-

1) when you take off in your shuttle, isnt the dog supposed to be on it, because as far as I can make out, just before take off she's standing away from it.

2) The space shuttle doesnt bode in too well, it's too Nasa'ery, some sort of cartoonish shuttle would be better.

3) Entering another planet looks a bit, meh.... You have a setup where you leave the old planet, it does look like your flying out of it, but when you get to another, it just jumps from being in space to being on the surface... A little "flying in animation" would be better.

4) It's still the same format, same style and same dog running shenanigans as the last 20000 Candy games you have made, and as such, I'm about as interested in playing it as I am getting my eyeballs removed via a teaspoon... Though, if it keeps you happy, I'll just shut up now!

Sometimes theres asteroids,
flying saucers, service stations.

sounds too much like my drive to work every day.
dogs driving cars and space ships to the space or the mall either one. Take your pick.

you should consider doing a first person shooter.

GfK(Posted 2012) [#10]
I think you should top off this series with "Candy Fouls Public Land and Gets Caught By the Dog Warden", then call it a day.

SystemError51(Posted 2012) [#11]
Theres no longer anti-aliasing glitches and we can now make transparency and blending.

Max 2D:

SetBlend ALPHABLEND
SetBlend LIGHTBLEND

I achieve somewhat similar effects (at least alpha) in OpenGL with

glBlendFunc(GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA) ' in case we have funky alpha in png's
glEnable(GL_BLEND)

--

I hope this engine, who runs in 640X480, 800X600 and 1024X768 resolutions, will please you.

I really don't want to say anything, if this is what you want it's cool - but these days, a game should support higher resolutions than that, even more preferably High-Definition resolutions like 1280x720, 1440x900 and 1920x1080 - because that's where it's at.

--

For the rest... I think it's cool when aimed for young children. But also, don't do the same style over and over. Had a look at the page... One such game is alright, but try different things and styles. No game out there is exactly like the other. Look at Mass Effect for example - in its evolution things have changed compared to previous parts.

There's nothing wrong doing a sequel to a game of any form, and continuing the story - but it should have notable improvements or differences. Just not the exact same thing with JUST a story. That won't sell. Nowhere. People want different things. That's why multi-part game series work.

GTA IV is nowhere the same as GTA San Andreas. It basically is the same style - but yet it's different, very different.

Hi everyones,

Lately, version 1.23 of Candy to
the Space was ready to launch.

Presently, I'm working on next version 1.27. There
will be shooting and space saving.

We hope you'll appreciate
trying our creations.

Hi everyones,

I'm presently working on the
Candy to the Space II logo.

Theres now 100 potions to grab, 7000 crystals to gather and maybe
it will be possible to save Lillians and Animals peoples
in space and on every planets.

Adding more items will be the
next goal of Xilvan Design.

xlsior(Posted 2012) [#32]
You -really- need a proper English translation -- "Candy to the space" makes absolutely no sense in English.

(In English it's just "space", WITHOUT the 'the' part. If you say "the space" it means that you're talking about a /specific/ location, and not "outer space" in general.)

Xilvan(Posted 2012) [#33]

Okay so; I have seen the same game over and over now, I'm going to make a suggestion and I don't want this to sound bad, but I would suggest instead of making the same game with new features every time, you should probability start with a new idea, and take everything you have learned from this programming experience.

Every time you post something about your game, it ends up becoming a laugh and its not fair to see your talents becomes someone else joke.

Its okay to pick something and go with it, but sometime its like beating a dead horse.

That is my opinion on this.

Xilvan(Posted 2012) [#40]
The new idea was the space part with
brand new missions to resolve.

Candy in Space III.

Maybe I'll have to change
the names of the game.

I started to work on the Asteroid shooting
Part of this game and I hope to find
even more missions to add.

More soon,

Xylvan,

I'm going to give you the same advice that people have given you many times before, this time in simple language so that you do not misunderstand.:

Do not make any more Candy games.

Make a 100% new game: Make it very different. Make it with a new engine. Make it with new gameplay. Make it with new graphics/models/media.

We know you loved Candy very much. Candy was a very good dog.

I like dogs, too. It hurts when they die.

Candy would want you to make something new and different.

It is time for you to move on, Xylvan. You can do it!

mrbombermillzy(Posted 2012) [#43]
OH MY GOD!!
I left this thread about 5 years ago.

A few minutes ago I decided to see if I could find the old 'Candyworld v1,2,3,4,5,6',,,etc threads as they were one of the most amusing things I had ever read on the internet. And Im being totally honest. (I just wish I could find the ones with the 'early 'face' renderings included.I was in tears when I saw those).

And to my surprise, its still rolling on, albeit with a slight change!
This new topic/game doesnt quite have the same quality as the old ones, but there are a few good one liners and the post above is a classic!

You know what? Good luck to you Xylvan. Youre like the Rocky Marciano of the 3rd person dog game making world.

I think you will succeed one day. Heres the reasons:

1. Like how the sea washes the sharp edged stones for a millennia and turns them into smooth round rocks, you will eventually end up with a fair game.Eventually. Either/and:

2. As long as you keep on posting new versions of your game every 5 minutes, eventually the WWW will run out of server space and everyone will have no choice but to play your game, as it will be the only thing available online.

3. Either way, you will make it. Just when you do, read JustLukes post above! :)

Maybe you would have more success printing out all your topics over the last half decade and making a book.

Will check this post out again in another 5 years or so, or earlier if google becomes 'Candy world search'.

I frikin' love you man! Good luck with Candy World!

-=Darkheart=-(Posted 2012) [#44]
A lot of people are critising Xylvan for making too many similar games; is it really much different from some of the other people on the forum chruning out match 3 games or solitaire card games? Isn't that just as unoriginal, in fact you could argue that Xlyvan's "Candy" games are considerably more innovative than that.

That doesn't mean I think they are good, even for children, but if it's making him happy and some other people like them, what the hell. Eventually he may come up with something that isn't really bad.

Xylvan you keep on going mate, for as long as it is fun for you!

Hi everyones,

Just to remind you.

Candy in Space III : A Mission for two dogs v1.27
is available in my website on freeheberg.com.

In this version, fuel are available in each health

entirely new variables to travel in Space.

New ideas in it are exposed
in the first entry.

I'm presently planning a sequel
callen Candy Space Adventures,
it will be in 2D.

This will be a 2D spatial game, with Asteroids,
Good and evil ufos, Planets will
be explorable.

I planned my new list of ideas in order
to continue Candy in Space III v1.37.

New info soon,

Hi everyones,

I've just finished version 1.37 of
Candy in Space III : A Mission for two dogs.

In this version I corrected many of
the remaining bugs and glitches.

This is officially the last version of this game,
but there may have a hidden sequel. I'll
not post anymore about this game.

My next official game will
be Candy Space Adventure.

Stay tuned !

GfK(Posted 2012) [#49]
I'm downloading this.

GfK(Posted 2012) [#50]
OK, here's my review having downloaded and played Candy III.

First off, it gets downloaded with CNET's download manager, which tries to install toolbars and all sorts of crap if you aren't on your toes. Second, the installer dumped three shortcuts on my desktop and did not give me the option to NOT have it do that. So I'm annoyed instantly, from the off.

Second, the game defaults to French and remains so even if I run the config tool, set it to English and click 'Save', but, no comprendez. I still have to endure the thing in French. The config tool itself it awful. Tiny window, black screen, default Blitz3D font. No effort on your part at all.

Upon finally running the game, I quickly notice that any potential escape route has been deliberately cut off - there is NO Quit option. In a state of near-panic, I jabbed the Escape button, which started the game. I frenziedly attacked the Escape key again and was promptly returned to desktop. This is incredibly poor design.

So, the game then. I'm afraid it doesn't get much better. There are no instructions whatsoever - not even French ones. I hit the cursor keys at random and the dog set off at a rate of knots, until I'd moved about five yards forward when I was treated to a cut-scene (I assume) of a flying saucer coming down for no apparent reason. I was unable to move for several seconds. When I finally started moving I ran towards what appeared to be a group of penguins. Dogs chase birds, right? So it made sense to do that. Candy must be allergic to penguins because she had an epileptic seizure when I got close, before doing a gigantic backwards somersault right back to where I started.

I spotted that the penguins are around something in a cage - I presume that I'm supposed to liberate whatever is in the cages from the psychopathic penguins but I'm given no guidance or even any cryptic clue as to how I might go about doing so, and yet for some reason, every twenty seconds I am treated to a cut-scene of a sphere; presumably meant to be an asteroid, falling from the sky. During this visual feast, this.... eyegasm of blandness, I am unable to move the mouse, do anything or even press Escape to get the hell out of there and preserve what little sanity I have left.

I seem to die almost randomly... and after almost seven minutes now of attempting to make sense of this, coupled with the intolerable and un-turn-offable 'music', I was beginning to actually wish I WAS dead.

OK, I didn't go into this thinking I was going to be treated to an amazing game. In fact, I was kind of only going to look for the bad stuff from the outset. But the truth is - and I've written some crap games myself in my time - this is not a game. It's an ordeal. At no point did I recoil in surprise and go "oh yeah that's actually good". There is NOTHING good here. The music is bad, the graphics are awful and the animation, incredibly, is worse. The gameplay is.... well, WHAT gameplay? Everything that happens in the game; the psycho penguins, the pointless ufo/asteroid cut-scenes, the complete lack of instruction or direction, is just annoying.

So, the scores on the doors:

Graphics: 2/10 - Awful models, even worse animation.
Sound: 1/10 - Apart from a couple of high-pitched vocals and the God-awful music, there's nothing.
Gameplay: 1/10 - I jest ye not - there simply isn't any. I've given it 1/10 because there might be somebody out there who likes backward-somersaulting dogs.
Execution: 1/10 - It runs, but I wish it didn't. Terrible design and implementation throughout.
OVERALL: 1/10

Summary:
Candy to the Wheelie Bin.

This sort of thing is why I quit Blitz3D (the discrimination).
Maybe Xylvan should try to make a 2d version of Candy in Space. It would be far more popular than the modernized 3d version that he has tried to perfect for so long, but has not succeeded.
Xylvan: Ein 2D-Plattform-Edition von Süßigkeiten wäre interessant zu sehen (A 2d platform edition of candy would be interesting to see).

I'm not discriminating, am I? I actually played it before writing the above and it is factual based on what I saw and experienced. If you think any of what I said is out of order, then grab a copy and see for yourself.

>>>And now in random languages, too!

You'll observe that his German text (which notably, isn't French) is done on Google Translate. If he actually spoke German instead of trying to be a smart-ass (and failing in an epic way) he would not have translated the word 'Candy' as it's the name of a character.

Captain Wicker (crazy hillbilly)(Posted 2012) [#54]

I know a few French words too. bonsure, escargot, weewee, french fries, madam.......

I do agree with gfk on the game score front, in my 32~ years as a coder and game player im sure like gfk we both have seen some really bad games. Now this isnt the worst game ive seen but i would have ask people to test it "without" giving them help and asked them to note down things they dont like, its this sort of feedback that would have changed the whole game by now into something more "appealing" as it stands i would have given it 1/10 too.

@wicker: you do realise some people do take offense when people mock thier main language, now this might not have been your intent but its something to think about in future.

I actually lied when I said that. The real reason is because I have fallen in love with NuclearBasic (Blitz3D + Shaders, Physics, DX11) and have decided that I should concentrate in learning it instead. FYI most source code written in Blitz3D can work in NuclearBasic with very little code change needed.

Also, I am 16 and still like to play Spyro. It isn't just for four year olds ya know. :P

Tbh that will be the thing about blitz products, loads of users will play with em till they get bored then move to languages with x feature. Really brl should be concentrating on getting people to buy its products and stay with them then move off. If they removed all accounts where the user hadnt been active for half a year this forum would only have a few hundred or so users!

Hi everyones,

It has been a long time since I went on
this forum for updades and answers.

I'm presently brainstorming new ideas of Games.

I've made few changes upon the three following points of the game.

- Corrected the Configuration program. Now it Loads the configuration files.

- Inverted the Yellow potions ( invincibility ) and the Purple potions ( invisibility ) counters.

- Replaced every crescents of bread at new locations,
now its easier to catch.

More to come !

Shambler(Posted 2012) [#66]
Crescents of bread?

Surely if Xylvan WAS French he would have said 'croissants'?

Four days is a long time in computing, especially if you only have Candy in Space to play.

*(Posted 2012) [#67]
@Xylvan:there are a few things I would give ya pointers on, these are as follows:
1) Get an artist onboard to design ya models - I too cant design models for toffee and I would be the first to admit it BUT a game if first sold by sight not by ratings.

2) Write a complete storyboard for your entire game and flesh out each section with as much detail as you can possibly, heck make it a novel if you must but make it interesting and fun.

3) Get people to test it either its this community or friends and family but get them to give you honest opinions and not spare your feelings as a turkey by any other name is still a turkey.

With that in mind you should be able to get away from the Candy epic and make a really nice game that would appeal to loads of people, heck you might even be able to make something that resembles Spyro or something like that if you get a good enough artist and have a good enough story. Just dont keep flogging Candy games to the masses as to be honest its just getting old now.
