Does this Tiny Tanks Video help explain the game or just make it more confusing ?? I want a video like this on the website but im not sure if this one is a success or not. I'm not very good judge of these things, and video editing is not my strong suit either. I only have Microsoft movie maker :) i wanted to have a voice over for the video text as well, but right now i've got a bad cold and cant talk more than a second without crackling and coughing. Is this the only tutorial there is? Or is there an in-game tutorial as well? It'd be much nicer if features were explained as the player found them. As for the video, the text is far too big, taking up almost all of the screen, and that makes it difficult to see what's actually happening in the video. Windows Moviemaker is quite good but if you want top-drawer production software then you won't go far wrong with Vegas Studio. You can get Vegas Studio 10 for under $60 now, which for what it does, is a bargain. |

Thanks , ill look at Vegas Studio. edit : in the meantime ill try to remake the existing video with readable but smaller text. There is no in game tutorial.(there is an online manual clickable on the main website) perhaps I should have a tool tips type of thing that pops up info until the player decides to shut it off? Just did a bit more playing with it, I didn't know there were so many text option in movie maker. I'm sure I can make the video a lot better now. |

I think it's hard to tell what class an enemy tank is. Take for instance TF2 (which looks to be a big inspiration to you), when I run around the corner and there's an enemy, I know right away it's a Pyro, Heave, Medic, etc so on and so forth. In TT...I can tell. |

Thanks, The class suits are all pretty different but the tank itself never changes.. just gets the suit put on top. This was easier for me because im not a very good artist. Believe me though I asked around, but no 3D & Texture artists wants to work for free these days. :) at least none of the ones I contacted, and I did contact a few ....dozen edit : here's a shot of them all together, yeah they all look like little blue tanks.. but i *think* the suits show a decent difference between classes. This is something I can keep in mind if any artists offer support. Last edited 2011 |

the vid tut looks pretty good to me, although you forgot to mention that the enemy magnatrons also cause damage as long as your in its field. also its been a while so not fully sure but i know gen's and possibly the radar stations if you stop damaging them, then their health will regenerate unless you've changed it. if you ever want to make a new vid let me know and i'll be the test dummy to show the effects of the different weapons. |

Sure thing, yeah I didnt mention every little thing, I tried to just touch on the basics that would not be obvious but are essential to playing. I think if you just improved the HUD it would make a big difference. The tiny lettering looks like something out of a word processor, and there should be more alpha transparency around them - not blocks of colour. Quick search online - take a look at Super Mario Galaxy 2 for inspiration. http://inintendo.net/Articles/WiiGOTY2010.php But it does look like a lot of fun! :D |

Thanks again, I hope you try it and see how fun it can be. Of coarse its only fun if someone else is in there too ! I try to jump on if I see someone on the server console. but back to your point... i've looked at MG2 hud with envy many times, What I had to finally surrender to was a few facts Mario Galaxy, in the screens I saw displays 5 things Stars Coins Lives Current Life Meter Gems On my hud at all times I have 21 items a radar screen a chat room and then I have Toggle enabled player score list Toggle enabled menu I allow 800x600 res as well,so it all has to fit into that space.. I'm certain I dont have the talent to make it any better. I've put it out there for anyone else before and had no takers but here it is again if anyone wants to take a crack at it. DOF and Choose Class arent used anymore. |

Ooo if I had the time. Couple of pointers though. You have lettering and a black outline. No shading, no outline colour around the text and a smooth transition gradient. Not tried it, but Big 10p's Juicy fonts looks good. Next thing, you have blocks of colour - yellow blue and pink blocks - get rid of them and follow my first suggestion. |

I did a bit of messing with it, roughed it up a tad to and gave the elements some highlights and shadows. Do you think thats any better ? mind you the hud layout image below doesn't have the proper mask applied and heres a few clickable in game shots of the adjusted elements. Personally when looking at the hud texture layout, i think the old one looks better, but in game i think the new one looks better. I still dont make any claim to be good at the art side of things.. had some time and was bored so took a crack at it. Honestly, I like the "rough" style. Seems to fit with the rough n' tumble gameplay. My other opinion, is to add a thinker border around your icons and UI so it pops against the game itself. Example of "double-border" icons, but illustrates my point: |
