Right now I'm working on an improved demo, to remove the glitches that play testers
have found in this one(For the most part, only minor glitches), and it would be extremely
helpful if any of you who have downloaded this could post, or e-mail any glitches that
you might have found so I can add them to the list ;)

Thanks!

And any suggestions you might have as to how to further improve the game are
always welcome.

slenkar(Posted 2010) [#4]
looks good, change the font tho,

WERDNA(Posted 2010) [#5]
Oky doke. Any suggestions as to what font I should use in its place?

I'm currently using the Vera font, and a little Verdana for the sections where I used
a special image instead of DrawText(such as the text on the title screen).

slenkar(Posted 2010) [#6]
looks like blitz font on all the screenies,
you could use a futuristic font, ??? open up gimp and it will let you write stuff with the installed fonts on your pc

WERDNA(Posted 2010) [#7]
Ok. I'll poke around and see what I can find ;)

Thanks for the suggestion!

Chugs40(Posted 2010) [#8]
Go to 1001freefonts.com. is this written in Bmax? if so you can Incbin your fonts.

ImaginaryHuman(Posted 2010) [#9]
I think this is a cool concept, the most interesting take on the `pong` concept. Your graphics are awful but in a way their `terribility` makes it very much a comedy :D

*cough*

:D Hehehe

Go to 1001freefonts.com.

It's written in Blitzmax, and I used the font I used, mainly because it was royalty free.
I'll take a look at the license agreement at 1001freefonts though, so see if I might be
able to use them :)

LOL!

Well said. Maybe I'll put that on the box for the full version ;)

@Dabz
You only named one of the characters named after a blitzer :)

_Skully(Posted 2010) [#12]
WERDNA,

Now that you have this all working have you considered bringing in an artist to polish it up?

ImaginaryHuman(Posted 2010) [#13]
I think all of your characters look funny, as in comedy, so I fear you'd lose that if you tried to have an artist make funny-looking characters. I like the `over the top`ness. Probably the funnest character is that one that looks like a pile of steaming poop - .. which could describe at least four of them, lol

It does look fun though.

I currently have a 0$ budget ;)
The whole point of Ping Pong Battle, is to do as good as I can with the graphics, sell
it, and at least make a little cash from it so I can buy art, music, etc for my next game.

Although ImaginaryHuman does have a good point, that making the characters look
more polished\professional might take away some of the wackiness.

I'm going to clean some of them up a little bit for the full version(I.e, Meathead who
just looks awful), but the graphics won't improve much beyond what they are now.
(Although I'm investigating smoothing the edges of the characters to give them a bit
more depth)

I forgot to mention in my first post, but major thanks to Ross C for the Hippy and
Dark wizard images, and major thanks to Yeshu777 for some of the music :)

I'm working right now on the 2.0 demo, to fix several small glitches found in this
one, and the full version will follow shortly thereafter.

WERDNA(Posted 2010) [#15]
Now that I've received some general feedback, what would be really nice is some
character feedback, since thats what the game is all about :)

So, what characters do you like\dislike, and when you first played the game which character
did you gravitate towards first?

Any abilities you think I should remove\edit, and which ones are your favorite?

Thanks for all the excellent feedback so far, just this little bit extra will tremendously!

WERDNA(Posted 2010) [#16]
A new demo will be ready very soon.

It will feature the following changes.

Fix to the Dabz character so he is no longer super powered. Several minor glitch fixes.

The game will not exceed 60 FPS at any time now. A new image for the McDao character.

A new set of menu screens, with at long last an options menu.

A scoring system, much like that in the Super Smash Bros games, where you earn
'awards' after each match, each award being worth so many points.
(Each character has their own individual high score for the campaign modes, and the high scores automatically SAVE)

The story has been slowed down a bit also, to make it more readable.

I would be uploading this new version right now since its done, EXCEPT I found
what appears to be a memory leak while playing, and the game crashed after about
20 minutes ;)
So after I solve that, I'll go ahead and upload it.

Cheers!

;)

WERDNA(Posted 2010) [#18]
People were complaining Dabz ;)
The Dabz character could win a match with only a single ball getting past him IF he
was unlucky. He's still one of the better characters in the game, lol!

Mainsworthy(Posted 2010) [#19]
Ive just seen the screenshots! well that looks like a fun game! :) I think you are a good designer hope you do well

WERDNA(Posted 2010) [#20]
Thanks Mainsworthy!

I'm working on it ;)

Mainsworthy(Posted 2010) [#21]
I would rather play this game rather than a normal pong game, I think the charectors make a great impact, I would say keep the originality of it as it works well

WERDNA(Posted 2010) [#22]
At long last, I think the memory leak is fixed!

I have some more play testing to do, but initial results are quite positive. Played for
46 minutes earlier, without any problems, winning both the easy and normal campaign.

The plus side of all of this, is now I know how much RAM the game requires to run, so
I'm working on getting system requirements put together :)
Plus I have a better understanding of just how much memory things use, lol.

I have removed a few more minor glitches, and this should be ready to upload by
Sunday. All I have to do, is a little more play testing, remove three new glitches, and
downgrade the Dabz character yet farther(He's still too good, lol). I'm also going to
upgrade the Meathead character, because he currently sucks eggs ;)

Dabhand(Posted 2010) [#23]

He's still too good, lol

It doesnt matter what you do Mr W, I'll always be awesome! :P

Though, Laura will disagree if shes asked, she'll probably just say I'm a useless bugger! :D

Dabz

WERDNA(Posted 2010) [#24]
You've been one of the most problematic characters in the game Dabz, second only
to Baldo the dwarf :)

Your abilities are just too good, lol.
Plus I had problems with you killing the frame rate with all of the extra objects you create :)

The game is all ready for upload, and will be uploaded sometime tomorrow(Sunday) unless the Wi-Fi connection I have access to on Sunday is feeling unstable ;)

Then I'll have to wait till Monday.

NEW DEMO :)

System Requirements.

Supported OS: WindowsXP,Vista,Win7
Processor: 2.00 GHz or higher. I have no idea what brands work and don't work.
RAM: 1GB Or more
Video Card: 32MB DirectX 9.0-compliant video care or better.
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0-compliant Audio Card.
DirectX Version: 9.0 or higher(I 'think' it will probably work with 7.0 or higher).
Hard Drive Space: I was never sure what this was, lol. If someone could help me out that would be great ;)
Display: 1024x768 32-bit-display or better.

Even though the game is getting close to completion, the demo is still free to download.
All that I request is A: feedback, and B: Some system information to help me finalize the system requirements ;)

Hope everyone enjoys the game!

GIB3D(Posted 2010) [#26]
For the hard drive space, just find out how many MB/GB's the game takes up after it's compiled and round up.

WERDNA(Posted 2010) [#27]
Ok, thanks :)

Should be 1.6 GB in Hard Drive space then!

GIB3D(Posted 2010) [#28]
Hopefully you're not including the source code into that number because the folder is only 45.8MB for me.

WERDNA(Posted 2010) [#29]
Oh, I did, lol. I compiled the code to check it ;)

Did you mean how much memory is soaked up when you first start the program?
