Always liked hex wargames... Had a nice set of games for my Speccy, like Vulcan by CCS. :-)

btw Mainsworthy, if you compile with GUI enabled for Mac, it won't open a Terminal window when you start it - you could also then put the grafix and stuff inside the application bundle (in the Resources folder).

Im going off-line, and dont want users dissapointed when they cant contact me(n\a), the game is going on thewargamer a massive site and no -one should worry about downloading. Ive closed geocities dont like leaving loose ends and dead links around, I did say in my posts is was a limited time.

I will try to be back as soon as I can! probably useing friends internet while I move house

Mainsworthy(Posted 2009) [#21]
I have made the map 10x bigger and now you have minimaps and faster hex range for the Computer.

sorry for the mess in my posts, Ive been offline , still am , but got online with my Laptop to post my current version advancedgodofminiwars120, but my webpage is 4mb usage and the file is 3.5mb so if you dont get it first time try later, Im not going to be able to reply to anything still moveing house.

Brucey(Posted 2009) [#23]
At least you don't render the hex map as a single image :-)

Mainsworthy(Posted 2009) [#24]
-+ Brucey +- Im a bit stuck with the map, I couldnt find any way of windowing(a section of a map) a big image, is it possible?

Brucey(Posted 2009) [#25]
Ideally, you wouldn't use a big image anyway. You'd render all the hex tiles on-the-fly, based on the terrain of the specific location. Then render the units on top of that.
Then the windowing problem wouldn't be a problem any more, as you could decide which parts of the large map you wanted to display, and only render that section to the screen.

Otherwise, you might get away with changing the ViewPort before drawing the big map, but this may have issues with some integrated graphics drivers.

:-)

"hex tiles on-the-fly, based on the terrain of the specific location. Then render the units on top of that."

thats what Ive done, just glad I was right to do it phew, it had me stumped.

Mr. Write Errors Man(Posted 2009) [#27]
Actually many hex based games use static images for maps. The maps themselves are drawn by artists. For example, Panzer General series (PG2 onwards), Close Combat series (player doesn't necessarily realize it's hex based), Decisive Battles series and so forth.

Mainsworthy(Posted 2009) [#28]
Yes Mr Errors Writer Man your right, I wanted a Map, it was more what blitz could do that I was asking brucey. nice to see your are an wargamer though :)

Mainsworthy(Posted 2009) [#29]
