working on a action flight sim.

http://www.blitzforum.de/upload/file.php?id=6488
It plays on the south-korean island of ullung-do in the japanese sea.
You are a Harrier Pilot of the USS-Kearsarge to defend from troops of northern korea.

The style is from the early 90s.

looks fun

Foppy(Posted 2009) [#3]
I like that style, it would be interesting to see how this moves and plays.

BlitzSupport(Posted 2009) [#4]
Whoa, I love the look of that. Keep us posted!

ZJP(Posted 2009) [#5]
Yesssss ;)

Sung(Posted 2009) [#6]
Hi,
thx for the nice comments
This is a small vid but its really pre alpha status... ;-)

Nicdel is the programmer
i make the 3D and the design of the game

see ya

Stevie G(Posted 2009) [#7]
Looks excellent. Love the low poly style.

Jason W.(Posted 2009) [#8]
nice....reminds me of F-18 for the amiga but using Stevie G's poly engine.

Jason

RifRaf(Posted 2009) [#9]
Looks fun.. Havent played F-18 on the Amiga, but i've played my share of Chuck Yeakers Air Combat on the PC, it looks alot like that imo.

ZJP(Posted 2009) [#10]
Reminds me...F29 Retaliator :))

After seening this and Polymaniacs, I'm starting to think you guys are on to a new type of gaming era.

What I mean is both games seem as advanced as any game being made, but the gfx engine is not intimidating.

If either of you or both could make a 3d engine w/ physics, I bet it would sell well.

Just an idea.

Jason

TaskMaster(Posted 2009) [#12]
It is definitely different than the current norm, but I am not sure "New" is the right term. When 3D first started coming out, it was all like that, back in the late 80's. Check out a game called Carrier Command, I played it on my Amiga, not sure about other platforms, also Elite, and many many others.

Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking it, it is pretty dang cool in my opinion.

Jason W.(Posted 2009) [#13]
Yeah, but Sung and Stevie G have done looks a lot better and cleaner. Plus those old games were limited....today, a dev has so many resources.

I would love to see some older games remade with this style graphics.

Jason

Chroma(Posted 2009) [#14]
Haha this is cool man. Hmm...maybe I should try out this style too. Then I could do all the graphics myself lol.

Sung(Posted 2009) [#15]
Hi Chroma,
for me it was not so easy to make detailed low poly meshes with a limited color spectrum. It's much easier for me to build a mid poly model and a nice texture on it :-)

Jason W.(Posted 2009) [#16]
What editor is that?

Chroma, give it a try and make a vid....your past stuff is great as well.

Jason

Sung(Posted 2009) [#17]
Hello Jason,

it is Milkshape. I use this program since more than 5 years. Very easy to learn and stable. You can easily export to *.b3d

Chroma(Posted 2009) [#18]
Yep I use Milkshape too. Great program.

Sung, any chance for a demo?

Sung(Posted 2009) [#19]
Hi,
yes we hope to finish this week (Sunday) an instant action demo called "Island Rumble".

Short description: You must destroy within 15 minutes as much as enemies you can. After that return to the USS-Kearsarge.

Greetings
Sung

SabataRH(Posted 2009) [#20]
Nice, I too am a huge fan of the flat-shaded - more defined low poly look. Keep us posted! this one i want to try out.

Yeshu777(Posted 2009) [#21]
Looks great, reminds me of Carrier Command.

So when do we get a demo?

LineOf7s(Posted 2009) [#22]
Chroma asked:
Sung, any chance for a demo?

Sung replied:
yes we hope to finish this week (Sunday) an instant action demo called "Island Rumble"

EOF(Posted 2009) [#23]
> nice....reminds me of F-18 for the amiga
Agreed. Fond memories and many hours spent on that game

This retro-graphical style has tons of mileage in my book. Nice

Grisu(Posted 2009) [#24]
Love the style as well.

It would be great if you could enhance the carrier.
The current one does look odd to me. :/

Sung(Posted 2009) [#25]
Thanks for that!

I need a little help in translation. My english is not the best, so is that correct?

"Troops have invaded the island of Ullung-Do in the sea of japan."
"The USS Kearsarge has the task of beating back the attack."
"As a pilot of a AV-8B Harrier Jet, destroy as many enemies as possible."
"You have 15 minutes of time. After that, land safely on the Kearsarge"

Greetings
Sung

Grisu(Posted 2009) [#26]
Maybe a native speaker could help?

I would make these minor changes:
"sea of japan" -> "Sea of Japan" (as it is a name)
"You have 15 minutes of time." -> "You have 15 minutes."

Sung(Posted 2009) [#27]
Hello Grisu,

thanks for the advice. But the carrier in Harrier Assault (HEAS) is a Amphibious Assault Ship (Wasp Class). Not a huge carrier as you think.

Greetings
Sung

skn3(Posted 2009) [#28]
"The USS Kearsarge has the task of beating back the attack."

could possibly be...

"The USS Kearsarge has the task of holding back the attack."

shots look really nice. I like the crisp style

Blitzplotter(Posted 2009) [#29]
@Sung, I suspected that might've been the case - looking pretty good!

skn3(Posted 2009) [#30]
Also..
"Troops have invaded the island of Ullung-Do in the sea of japan."

could be

"Troops have invaded the island of Ullung-Do located in the Sea of Japan."

Sung(Posted 2009) [#31]
Thanks alot for helping!

This is the website. If we got finish, you will found there a download link for the first alpha demo.

http://heas.mcrs.eu/

Thx
Sung

skn3(Posted 2009) [#32]
Cool (thumbs up)

one more tweak:

"As a pilot of a AV-8B Harrier Jet, destroy as many enemies as possible."

could be

"As the pilot of a AV-8B Harrier Jet, you must destroy as many enemies as possible!"

or

"As the pilot of a AV-8B Harrier Jet, it is your mission to destroy as many enemies as possible!"

hope that helps.

Sung(Posted 2009) [#33]
Our first alpha demo is available now.

http://heas.mcrs.eu

Hope it makes some fun to you!

Feel free for comments and suggestions.

Startmode: W (pressed)
Landingmode: S (pressed)
Thrust up: A
Thrust down: Y (US = Z)
Gun: D
Stearing: Cursor keys

After you land on the carrier - plane will recieve new ammo and repair by pressing the space key

Have fun!

Yeshu777(Posted 2009) [#34]
Downloaded!

A bit obvious, Thrust Down is Z not Y.

Sung(Posted 2009) [#35]
Sorry Yeshu you are right.

I postet the keys for europe,

Y = Z (US)

Yeshu777(Posted 2009) [#36]
Sung,

Thanks for the download, will play this evening & report back.

Sung(Posted 2009) [#37]
We have added a version for Linux Wine Users
Have fun!

Yeshu777(Posted 2009) [#38]
Hi Sung,

Have played this a few times, and here are a couple of comments.

1. The control of the aircraft seems very linear, doesn't appear to give the feeling of flying, or there doesn't appear to have any wind resistance when making sharp turns.

2. At high altitude there's noticable flickering on the island.

I'll keep playing and report anything I notice, but in all good work.

PS. would be nice to have homing missiles. :)

Sung(Posted 2009) [#39]
Hi Yeshu,
deep bows for testing it. We will fix this with the next version. And with missiles :-)

Greetings
Sung

Matty(Posted 2009) [#40]
I think it looks nice, but maybe some antialiasing would make it look better.
Have to try it still yet...

from Matt

xlsior(Posted 2009) [#41]
Sorry Yeshu you are right.

I postet the keys for europe,

Y = Z (US)

Small nitpick, but other than the German speaking countries, all of Europe also has the 'y' and 'z' in the same place as the US keyboard layout.

Germany/Austria/Switserland are the only ones with QWERTZ layout, pretty much everyone else uses QWERTY. (with the 'y' and 'z' swapped compared to German keyboards)

Who was John Galt?(Posted 2009) [#42]
Looks great! My gfx taste must be stuck in the 90s!

Will check the demo out later.

Blitzplotter(Posted 2009) [#43]
This is brilliant, I haven't played flight sims in a while but I've found your game great fun.
