Hello all,
I was watching TV and suddenly this idea popped into my mind about how to make a transition screen kinda like the one you see in Banjo-Kazooie, a N64 game.

From a completely black screen, jigsaw pieces would form the image of the game...

...and then the game would start it's automated demo.

From B3D, with my idea in the head, I accomplished something similar:

Although not as stylish (I didn't take the time to model the jigsaw pieces, it would take far too much time); I really just wanted to test if it worked, and it does seem so.

You can get my demo here:

Jigsaw_Transition.ZIP

It opens up an 800x600 B3D window where you can see it in action. It's limited to 60 FPS.

Controls: Press Enter to cycle the transition animation back and forth. It will only allow you to do so once it finishes the motion, so you'll have to wait for it to complete.

Nice, looks really good. Couldn't you create the more traditional style pieces in code as well?

Kryzon(Posted 2009) [#7]
Thanks Jeppe.
Well, I could even create the pieces directly in code, but I wouldn't know how to animate them with as much freedom as with seeing them :D (I animated them by hand in 3DS Max)

wow that is really awesome.

Thanks Terry!

Made another type of transition. This one is a Circular Fade:

CircularFade.ZIP - 600 Kb

Press SPACE to make the fade close or open.
