ROBO ATTACK 3D!

Greetings everyone!

I have finally finished my very first 3D game.
I began this project some time ago shortly after I bought
Blitz3D but then dropped it when I got stuck :(

I recently picked up work on this game, and completly
finished it in about a week.
Expanding considerably on the original concept as well.
This was originally going to be just a remake of one of my
earliest blitz games, simply in 3D, but has since become quite
different from the original.

The goal of the game, is to move around trying to collect all of
the dots, while avoiding the enemy robots.
After collecting all of the dots, you get to fight a boss character.
You can also pick up Powerups to give you special abilities for
a limited time.

Heres some screenshots, and I hope you enjoy the game!

Download it at
http://hosted.filefront.com/werdnaworld

Use the arrow keys to move, spacebar to strafe while moving,
'A' to shoot, 'P' to pause, 'J' to take a screenshot, Enter to change
the view, and finally ESC to exit.

(On a side note, this has been the most awful horribly bugged
game that I have ever made. First I had a serious game crashing
collision problem, that appeared to be a bug in Blitz itself, then an
equally bad sound problem, that might have been a glitch in my
computer. Needless to say, I will be posting about this in the blitz
3D bug forums when i have the time.)

I just noticed this is up to 45 downloads already!

@.@!

Its only been 2 days!

This already has the highest download rate of any game I've ever
posted save Dragon Spirit!

Well someone must be enjoying it.
Although.....
Where might the feedback be?
I would deeply appreciate it, if at least 1 of those 45 individuals left
some feedback ^_^

Looking good so far.

Which key is used to fire?

Game:
- Please add a simple main menu with instructions.
Or at least a "help.txt".
- Can the robot have special weapons or a temporary shield please ;)

Package:
- Get rid of the "Thumbs.db" in the zip file
- Convert the wav files to ogg or mp3 if the app will stay freeware
- Use a packer like Terabit in order to create a single file distribution

Wow!

I wish I could make something as much fun as that!

An idea though - for those of us not quite able to defeat the boss, maybe it could have a menu to return to rather than end the game with a runtime error?

Nate the Great(Posted 2009) [#5]
wow that is addicting! I got to the second boss then it said don't be a noob as a blitz runtime error :( lol I got 4490!!!

nice job

@Grisu There is an instruction manual included in the main folder with everything
you need, and the 'A' key is used to fire :)
You can get powerups to give you special abilities.
I didn't even realize that thumbs was in there, lol, and I can convert
the .wav files to a smaller format, although due to the horrible problems that
I had with sound, I'm afraid to even touch them.

@Yasha A main menu is definitely a good idea. I actually intend to
expand upon this game when i have the time by adding difficulty levels
several more mazes and bosses, and possibly even two player if I can
figure out how :)

@Nate the Great. You beat my high score by nearly 2000 points, LOL!
Congratulations!

@Everyone

I'm really glad that you found this game to be so much fun!
I had no idea that I would get such positive feedback.
This is only my first 3D game, lol.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

oh, not sure if your still working on it, but maybe making the player green or blue or something would help in top-down mode because sometimes I would get completely lost in a crowd of robots. See your second screenshot for an example of what I am talking about. Nice job on your fist 3d game though!

WERDNA(Posted 2009) [#8]
I'm still working on it ^_^

This is only the Beta Version.
Now I'm working on the full version, which is set up with a level format,
meaning first you go through level 1, collect the dots, fight the boss,
then go to level 2, and so on.
There will be different kinds of enemies, the player will be a different
color, there will be more powerups, unique mazes, more bosses, etc.

The full version will sell for 2$ per download.

Glad you all enjoyed the game,

WERDNA

Grisu has the smallest hard disc in the world :P Not bad man. Wav's tend to load quicker and are less likely to jump when they loop.

Your games are always a bit different. nice :)

WERDNA(Posted 2009) [#10]
Yeah, I always try to do a different style of game :)
I don't think I've ever done two games that are even in a similiar style, lol.

Okey doke. Its been a month apparently since I uploaded this, and the
next version is 'nearing' completion.(I say 'nearing' because with programming you never know when you'll run into something that massively increases development time :)

But I am in need of some very specific feedback, because the
new version has changed so much.

1: Do you like the fact that the maze walls can be pushed by the player,
and destroyed by the robots?
Does that ruin the 'maze' factor since you technically can just plow through
any wall you want to?
Because currently in the new version, the walls are NOT pushable, and
cannot be destroyed. So the player MUST find his way through the maze to collect all the dots.

Is the change good, or bad, in your opinion?

2: Are there too many dots?
Do you think it takes too long to clear a level?

3: Is everyone fine if I ditch the overhead view?
Or do you like the overhead view too much?
Because with the overhead view, the player can find his way through
the maze too easily. If I were to ditch it, and keep the player in the
first person view, then I would throw in a limited view mini map instead
so that the player can see a small portion of the maze around him.

Those three questions should be sufficient.

Thanks everyone!

And all previously addressed issues have been fixed.
I now have the most awesome title screen in the world :)
