I made a new game with Blitzmax, but due to its slightly/possibly offensive(puerile) nature i'll not post anything other than a link to my site, i like this place, and i don't want to get booted out or anything. You have been warned!

http://www.charliesgames.com/wordpress/?page_id=65

I'd like also to take this opportunity to thank Brucey for the intel mac and linux builds.

Currently there is only one level, but it's a really good one, and i'm sure you all value quality over quantity, either way let me know what you think...

Cheers
Charlie

lol, congrats! The giant love sack is pretty funny. This actually looks like a decent shooter!

Retimer(Posted 2009) [#3]
haha. nice hit! I love the tune.

puki(Posted 2009) [#4]
Yeh, the tune brings back memories of my Amiga in cotton panties.

Nate the Great(Posted 2009) [#5]
wow that is really creative and painful at the same time... I can see your reasoning for not posting screenies

Jerome Squalor(Posted 2009) [#6]
i dont know how else to say it but, this game is AMAZING!!!!!

InvisibleKid(Posted 2009) [#7]
hmmm, well its definately interesting and creative. love the retro style very well done there, haven't tried it yet but it looks funny. probably give it a shot later.

definately not something i would have thought to cum up with though... i'm on a roll ;-)

Grey Alien(Posted 2009) [#8]
Yeah good to see you've made a decent game instead of dicking around. It's also good that you've been creative and said "Balls" to convention.

QuickSilva(Posted 2009) [#9]
Works well on my system. Can I ask what sort of timing method you are using?

Jason.

GfK(Posted 2009) [#10]
Looks like a load of boll..... um, best not. :)

You're quite strange, aren't you? ;)

[edit] I was going to say bollards. Yes, bollards.

spacerat(Posted 2009) [#11]
I want to try it out but for some reason the player seems to fly to the top corner and stay there automatically, as if I have a joystick held down or something (which I don't - I don't even have a joystick). I'm not sure what the problem is but I have a feeling it could be to do with joystick support.

On the other hand, it looks surprisingly good; you've pulled off the 8 bit retro theme really well.

jkrankie(Posted 2009) [#12]
Thanks all for the comments. i had a cool shooter written, but no graphics or theme, and a friend suggested i use images of genitals. i couldn't think of anything else so that kind of stuck.

@quicksilva, no timing methods really, just a graphics 800,600,0,60. there really isn't enough going on to slow the game down so i didn't bother with delta timing.

@spacerat, that seems weird. have you got another keyboard you can try? i'm pretty sure it's not joystick related...

Cheers
Charlie

Damien Sturdy(Posted 2009) [#13]
LOL. oh my word, best lookin 8 bit game ever! haha....

InvisibleKid(Posted 2009) [#14]
just tried it good fun, good laughs, good retroness.

all in all, its a very ballsy game and i hope any critiques aren't to hard on you :-o

good job

(tu) sinu(Posted 2009) [#15]
You should have a frog as the main boss to go along with all them pale tadpoles.

QuickSilva(Posted 2009) [#16]
One thing I forgot to mention was that I was getting a slight delay (1-2 seconds) with the sound effects on Vista. This can be fixed by using OpenAL as I assume that you are not at the moment.

With regards to no timing, with your other game Bullet Candy did you do the same thing as that runs well too and is very graphic intensive. Just curious...

Jason.

jkrankie(Posted 2009) [#17]
I'll look into sound on Vista, thanks for the tip. BASS is free for freeware isn't it? i preffer that to OPENAL.

Bullet Candy wasn't doing anything fancy either, it just look intensive ;)

Cheers
Charlie

QuickSilva(Posted 2009) [#18]
Interesting, so your games use no fancy timing methods but still run great. I wonder what the lowest specs are that your games run well on after all, Bullet Candy is the sort of game that would slow a computer down without proper timing in place. Anyway, sorry for going slightly off topic.

Jason.

File this under cult classics. Indie gaming needs more quality totally left-field games like this.

big10p(Posted 2009) [#20]
Vid looks awesome. Loving the music, too.

jsp(Posted 2009) [#21]
LOL. I wonder what has inspired you.

Ah the muse of many.

Sanctus(Posted 2009) [#24]
LOL that's hardcore. Stupid graphics but damn good gameplay :)

Dabhand(Posted 2009) [#25]
lol, never would I have ever imagined that I would see a game about male genitilia... Moral of the story... Never say never! :D

Very odd indeed! ;)

Well, the idea was really to get some hits to my site and letting players know that the site exists and that i write fun games, as i'm writing another more serious game that i want people to know about.

Space Phallus has a silly name, and sillier graphics, designed to get people onto the site. when they play the game, and realize it's more than just silly pictures of willies then i hope that people will return to the site to see what else i've got to offer and what is in the pipeline etc. and subscribe to the RSS feed.

Seems to be working so far...

Cheers
Charlie

Sanctus(Posted 2009) [#27]
Yeah :)) I'm still playing it :)

Space Fractal(Posted 2009) [#28]
hehe, a bit odd 8 bit Atari like theme.

Here is the small issues I found (none of them should been very big):

- The delay in the sound can been fixed using this command (which can been checked if this driver can been found):
SetAudioDriver("OpenAL")

- I do not like insert naming using keyboard, due with the 8 bit theme and should been useable with a joystick only, or been played on a PC based arcade cabinet, which I have.

- It should also start in the fullscreen possible set in a config file (another cabinet issue).

- Would been nice to double the keys to CTRL, ALT and SPACE while using Z X C as well.

- Thinking having a widescreen support using a 640x400 resolution or such, choiceable in the config (widescreen is more more popular now)? Not a big issue elsewice.

Orca(Posted 2009) [#29]
This game is really hard. Pun fully intended.

I can't get past the flying uhm....sac boss.

The music rocks btw.

Grisu(Posted 2009) [#30]
Great fun!

You should add a note like:
"No men were harmed while coding the game!"

Dabhand(Posted 2009) [#31]
Viagra power ups... Now theres something you should chuck in! ;)

When the player picks up a blue, diamond shaped power pill, make them invincible for a bit... You know.. Make them rock hard! (Pun intended)

I just found something simple to fix: the Event queue, as far as keyboard input, should be cleared of keyboard events upon player death. Press "C" or "X" as the player explodes or flies in from the left after dying, to see.
Also, it really bugged me to see that the sperm that was shot out could not be hit. I think you should make it possible for people to shoot any projectile that comes out (whoops, uh, you know what I mean :P). If doing so makes it easier, just make a few more enemies spawn for each part of each wave.
Oh, also, if you want it to have more replayability, spawn the enemies in a random-but-controlled manner (you know, at x and between y1 and y2).

Very enjoyable game!
I am considering (with me that usually means yes :3 ) purchasing Irukandji, but come on man, you need to charge $5 at least for it (I'm going to pay $10 when I get some free time).

EDIT: It is possible for powerups/coins to appear/spawn outside of the screen, or where they are only partially visible and the player cannot get to them.

EDIT #2:
its a good game, but I dont like the way the screen shakes when you shoot an enemy. It makes you NOT want to shoot enemies when the screen shakes.

You could make "screen feedback" an option in a menu, along with number of lives for more hardcore gamers.

Retimer(Posted 2010) [#33]
Ah...saw this post 10 months ago, and it still makes me laugh hysterically at how well the game is done for its....style.

Thanks guys :)

Recently, Space Phallus was rated one of the best freeware shooters of last year, see here:
