This program will allow you to solve "Mate in Two" problems. The rules are simple, white is to move and must mate black in two moves.
The key is to make your first move in such a way, that no matter what black does, he cannot avoid mate on your next move.
When you first run the program, a requester pops up asking for which puzzle to load. All Mate in Two puzzles end with the .mit extension. You then make a move, after which black will move. If you mate on your next move, you win. If you do not succeed in mating black on your next move, you lose.
To load a new game, press "N". To restart the current game, press "R". If you get totally stuck, you can press "F" and the computer will find the next move for you.
Note that this program does not recognize en passant nor castling as legal moves, so if the solution requires those moves, you cannot use this program to solve them.
When you solve my two super simple puzzles that I've included on this download, you can enter new puzzles using the included "Mate in Two Creator" program.
The program is simple to use. Left-click to place a piece on the board, Right-click to clear. Choose the piece by clicking on them in the right. Color is selected below. Press "S" to save your puzzle, "L" to load a puzzle to edit, or "N" to clear the board and start a new puzzle.
