Calculus, The Game

Hi everyone,

After having one of my friends test Calculus, The Game, I realized that there were some major flaws in the combat system. To resolve this, I completely revamped it, replacing the typical RPG style combat with a more action oriented/simpler combat. Because of this, I had to also change the role items play in the game. Through all of this, it was necessary to make other small improvements as well. Quite simply though, I think it's a much better game than before.

I come here to show my work and ask if some community members would give it a try so I can receive useful feedback. YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW CALCULUS TO PLAY! All you have to do is look at the questions.txt file as you play. The answers look like this:

What is 4+4?
2
3
4
5
8
5 <== Shows which number answer is correct (which is obviously the 5th, which is 8)

Thank you for your time, here is the download link:

Calculus, The Game? I would have been dead suspicious of this as a kid. Who's it for?

Sauer(Posted 2008) [#3]
Calc students/teachers? People that like calculus?

Ok, I just played your game.

And first of all, I'll list the good points.

I like the way you move from one screen to another.

I like the combat system.

I like the things the characters say to you.

I like the map.

I loved your sense of humor, both in the story, and in the game.

And finally the whole idea of a calculus game is very inventive.

Now for the bad points.

I don't think most people would find this game enjoyable.
The idea of a math game is not very appealing to most, and since it
Is a match game and revolves around answering math questions,
most people will probably not bother playing it past the first few questions.

The graphics leave something to be desired, and it would have been
nice if you didn't keep using the same pictures for the rooms over and
over again. It confused me at times, and I thought I had made a wrong
turn and gone back to a previous room.

The music was slightly annoying although I suppose it fit the feel of
the game pretty well, so thats ok.

Overall though, this game is much improved over the previous version,
and certainly gets points for being inventive.
And inventive games, really are the best kind of game.

So keep up the good work Sauer, and I look forward to what you do next.

Yes I understand that the game is not intended for a mass market, and that doesn't bother me.

However, the resurgence of graphics issues DOES bother me. While I would like to hire a graphics artist, I could not pay them and I doubt any one will draw me 88 unique rooms for free, or even cheap.

I've been learning some artistic techniques that I may imply. I plan to draw a whole new set of rooms, and to help the "same room thing" I will just add a bunch of different mathmatical and scientific equipment to different rooms.

I apologize for thinking aloud.

But many thanks to WERDNA for a fantastic bit of feedback. With more like it this game will get better and better.

Sounds good Sauer.

I look forward to the next version of the game.

LOL, and thanks for spelling my name in Caps.
That is the way it should be done.
