Cool game, might want to post atleast 1 screenshot though.

Edit: Accept Criticism, its good for you to improve.

Terry B.(Posted 2007) [#3]
6 months?
I thought you started this like 2 weeks ago....

Nack(Posted 2007) [#4]
why is it snowing inside the house?

andy_mc(Posted 2007) [#5]
You'll need a better file server for the demo, I had to wait over a minute for the download link to work because of capacity. The it downloaded at 50kb/s, which bad since I have a 20MB connection.

Use a better installer, such as inno setup, it's not very professional having a message pop up telling you the developer used a free copy of an installer.

Don't install to the root of the start menu, I put important programs there, so it's really annoying when normal programs force themselves there.

Okay, now I've downloaded it and tried it. Here's my honest opinion:

OMGWTFBBQ?!?!

That is the most random game I've ever played (except space giraffe)

What are you meant to do in it, why does the dog jump 50 feet in the air and say "yippee"

What are the ghosts things and how do you escape from them?

It still changes from day to night very quickly and with no fade effect.

The character has been slowed down since LOD (which is good because that guy was on like 5 pills of spped or something).

But seriously, this is simple game design we're talking here, if the player has no idea what your meant to do, besides being able to collect bones and what I can only assume are turds, and that's about it.

Please can someone tell me the aim of this game?

Some nice graphics effects, but you have just ripped off 95% of the graphics from LOD and put a dog in it.

Xilvan(Posted 2007) [#6]
I changed to filefront...

andy_mc(Posted 2007) [#7]
That's cool, I get over 400Kb/sec with filefront.

Sorry if my last post seemed very harsh, but you don't seem to listen to what other game designers/developers tell you.

I also sat my girlfriend infront of it, she doesn't design games, but does play alot of them. She had no idea what you were meant to do, and commented that it was the worst game she'd ever played.

P.S. Do you realise your general forum on yourwebsite has over a thousand porn adverts in it?

Xilvan(Posted 2007) [#8]
The worst game I ever played was Coffee Induced Games...
they are odd 2d games and I believe that u hate my game just because its in 3D :D My renders are better than any other blitz games of the same cathegory...

To know the goal of the game talk to the dogs and cats u meet... I also believe that your girlfriend is Relm from e-magination... :D

boomboom(Posted 2007) [#9]
but why do we want to talk to cats and dogs we meet? and why are we collecting bones if the object of the game is to talk to other animals? are the bones useless to the goal of the game?

Xilvan(Posted 2007) [#10]
U must grab bones to achieve a world... there are 17 worlds and then 1700 bones to collect throught the game...

The goal is to get to Candy's house in the heaven world 17

Each world has his own gates and bone color... She must collect Pastries too in order to open a portal...

for the porn i gotta advertise the webmaster... I think somebody in the blitz community jinxed me cause its 2d games doesnt fit with the futuristic 3d game of Xilvan Design

andy_mc(Posted 2007) [#11]
How am I mean to know to talk to animals? I'm a dog collecting bones, there's no clue anywhere what you're meant to do....

As for my games, yes, I know they suck. That's why there's nothing finished. I don't expect anyone to look at my page and be impressed. I've only ever completed one game, and that was signed up with Kooldog to be published just before they dissappeared.

I don't hate your game because it's 3D, and have no idea why you think that. My favorite games I've played are probably all 3D. It's games that have really bad design that I don't like. Yes, some of the graphics in your games are very nice, but that's not why I buy games.

Also, even though I've got no idea what e-magination is, I'm assuming you're trying to insult my girlfriend. Not bery professional, please tell you don't handle your customer feedback comments.

Have you approached publishers with your games? If they critisie them, do you kill them all and burn the building down? I wouldn't be surprised if your did. You talk like someone who can't accept any critisism at all.

Last point: Your option screen needs some work, it looks like you wrote something quick a place holder then forgot to write the proper screen.

Please, for your own sake, learn to accept feedback without going mental at people for just being honest.

boomboom(Posted 2007) [#13]
I hope you ment 'advise the webmaster'. Your games seem quite focused on children...at least candy world (I can't imagine another market for this game). Having your 'Community' section swamped with so much porn is a very bad thing!

Stevie G(Posted 2007) [#14]
I collected a handful of bones and some of the turds, got bored and quit after 10 mins. Looks ok but is sorely lacking in interesting gameplay.

Sorry
Stevie

andy_mc(Posted 2007) [#15]
Do you really beleive we all hate 3D games? Look at games charts, there are always a good number of 2D games there. Whether a game is good or bad normally has nothing to do with whether it's in 3D or not. You simply use which ever graphic style best suits the design of the game.

Most casual games are written to run in 2D partly due to quicker development times and being easier to test, but also to be able to run well on as many PC types as possible.

So it really depends what your game design requires, and who your target audience is.

I only have a few example code snippets on my site because I don't spend any time programming (probably about an hour a month, because I waste my time playing games). I have a folder on my PC with 20 different ideas for games, and 4 of them are in 3D, there would be more, but I need to improve my programming ability a little more and don't have extra people to use as a development team.

*cough* Eschalon Book 1 *cough*

andy_mc(Posted 2007) [#17]
yes, I just played the demo of Eschalon and thought it was brilliant. I realise it's 2D so Xylvan will hate it but it was very professionally presented, right down to the menu system. It tells you what's going on, the controls are straight forward, the animation is smooth with no sharp jerky movements. And the sound is amazing in it. Really well done. I was thinking of starting work on an RPG, but to be honest, I don't have the spare time to do it, so now will probably get back to the 3D space shooter I've been thinking of doing.

Xilvan(Posted 2007) [#18]
I made the game in the spirit of a contest on gamedev.com... having an animal which collect bonus to open door was a good idea... You have to EXPLORE, DESTROY baddies and help animals... Its basically a children's game.
No comments accepted: it was a postume souvenir for my deceded dog... I thought it was a good idea to use that kind of gameplay... Maybe Mario Galaxy or Banjo Kazooie fans will enjoy my game...

in Banjo Kazooie, Banjo the bear says "Wii" when he jumping and Mario says, in Mario 64 "Wooot!" "Wooo hoooo!" Yahoo" .... Candy, while jumping, says "Youppi" and say "hum houm hum!" when she eats candi bones and say "Voila" when eating pastries(turds)

And u must collect 100 coins/ 100 candi bones or different color per level... 20 pastries must be gathered to make candy's food...

Now I'm looking forward making a new game : Candy World 2...
I will need tons of suggestion of gameplay to improve the game cause I'm just a game programmer... My greatest idea turns around making some good RPG in the line of Zelda like LOD... but I'm not good at making plateformers like Mario Galaxy... I use the same idea as Nintendo or Sony...

Defoc8(Posted 2007) [#19]
hmmm - no offense, but can u please stop bumping threads
about these games. Ive havent bothered myself with this
til now...but to be honest, its becoming very annoying.

annoying things about these threads

1] - constant updates..both on the news page and
forums - like this is most eagerly awaited game ever.

2] - posting on a forum, then choosing to ignore feedback.
- blog, if you dont want crit! -

3] - your deluded attitude - "this game has best gfx ever"
ok, so thats no a quote, but it may as well be.

ok..rant over - i wish you all the best of luck + i have no
doubt some people will love your games..

Xilvan(Posted 2007) [#20]
Thanks... I pretty love the critics even if they are not positive...I must accept them to make better games... otherwise i cant make the people enjoying my games...

Try LOD its unbelievable...

MadJack(Posted 2007) [#21]
I'd love to see a game put together by Xylvan and MDickie. That would be crazy.

Ked(Posted 2007) [#22]
Now I'm looking forward making a new game : Candy World 2...

It's going to suck.
My greatest idea turns around making some good RPG in the line of Zelda like LOD...

Good one. How many copies have you sold? Thats what I thought.
My renders are better than any other blitz games of the same cathegory...

Nope. Try again.

Alright. SO... Xylvan... friend... when are you going to tell us that this is all a joke and that you were just saying crap like this to make yourself feel better that that you were banned from the French Blitz community? Please say soon because most of us are getting tired of this.

andy_mc(Posted 2007) [#23]
No, I actually say good luck to you Xylvan, you obviously have the confidence to show your work off, which is a good sign for any games developer, the only issue right now is your lack of ability to cope well under critisism.

I would ask though, that you try spending some time writing down all the good points of RPG's you play today, and compare those points to your game, also, look at reviews of other games you like, take note of what the reviewers say, writing games is as much as about designing a game you will enjoy writing as a game everyone else will enjoy playing.

Mortiis(Posted 2007) [#24]
Yeah teach him andy :D help the poor soul.

A must have for showing what blitz can do!

Xylvan boy, you just made my day! Bwhahaha!

Xilvan(Posted 2007) [#25]
Amazing !

GregBUG(Posted 2007) [#26]
@all

please…

...stop...

:)

John Blackledge(Posted 2007) [#27]
One small point Xylvan:

'Released' is what lots of us do - set up a website and try to sell our wares from there.

'Published' is when a publishing house has enough faith in a product to take it on, finance it, and advertise it.

Who was John Galt?(Posted 2007) [#28]
Xylvan... the best advice I can give you is just listen to some of the criticism (the constructive stuff at least). Every time someone tells you the gameplay is poor, you respond with an improvement in the eye Candy department. Your game looks fine, now you need to make it play better.

Xzider(Posted 2007) [#29]
Good luck on this Xylvan, keep in mind the criticism and try to view it in our perspective.

Collecting turds...Thats pretty funny.

Mortiis(Posted 2007) [#30]
Maybe cleaning the world from turds? :)

Vertigo(Posted 2007) [#31]
Ok I just wanted to state that... someone explain super mario bros for the nes... you ran around and collected.. um those look like coins... smashed bricks and ate mushrooms that you didnt know if you should avoid or try to catch... what about half of the bad guys and things you cant even identify... a LOT of game designers just go by the assumption that the players are "supposed to know" what to do right out of the box.. and this isnt the case.. but it happens with so many games... Ok Xylvan has some issues... its apparent... and he wont take any of our advice... why continue to make an issue of it... its safe to say that no one has purchased LOD, no one here wants to.. and if Xylvan wants to continue to hype his game, let him, and simply dont reply to the forum posts... eventually he will get bored with talking to him self, and perhaps then start taking everyones previous advice and start on a new game or something... any takers?

Xilvan(Posted 2007) [#32]
I think people should buy my games because they are smart and well done... Many people bought LOD many tried the demo and nobody has destroyed me yet...

LOD is full of good idea and nobody should take it and make it a warez... cause they will die if they do... Why ? Cause Xylvan will smith them !

If somebody say: what an ugly dog to Candy she will say u: I will sent u to hell stupid moron...I can set up magic trick in my game to stop unconscient and unreasonable people who critics and unheart my soul... I can ban them from universe too...

My games dont eat eyes... it just juges its user and apply sanctions dependant of the nature of the thought... Wanna hear Xylvan saying what you are really and punishing you ?... Stop the boycott or I will say something that will destroy your games...

Brucey(Posted 2007) [#33]
I think it's cool that a 15-year old is able to produce and market any game - however good or bad it may be.

:-)

N(Posted 2007) [#34]
My games dont eat eyes... it just juges its user and apply sanctions dependant of the nature of the thought... Wanna hear Xylvan saying what you are really and punishing you ?... Stop the boycott or I will say something that will destroy your games...
They may not eat eyes, but they sure make me want to gouge yours out. Honestly, your games are dull, uninspired primitive-fests with barely a thought's worth of gameplay. It's a terrible game, and you need to realize that.

Congratulations, you made something, now make something good instead of this torture device you're selling (or trying to sell- I cannot actually get a product page for your work on Plimus).

Maybe your games are full of good ideas, but you buried those ideas six feet under a mountain of horrible, uninspired mess. They are not smart, they are not well done, get over yourself.

boomboom(Posted 2007) [#35]
No one has organised a mass boycott of your games. If they are good then people will buy them. IF your goal for making games is to make money then the Blitz Community shouldn't even register as 1% of your expected market, so even if we somehow did, it shouldn't really affect the sales of your game. If you don't make games people want to buy then people won't buy them.

This is like when you blaimed GfK for some how covertly emailing Atari and getting them not to publish your LoD game (with all his publisher controlling power).

Oh, and don't worry, I don't think Candy world will ever be warezd

boomboom(Posted 2007) [#36]
I just downloaded the new demo as I don't like to have an opinion of something without having actually played it (I had played your older version).

First thing to note is that your game installer doesn't make a shortcut for the game exe in the start menu, just a shortcut to uninstall it...

nrasool(Posted 2007) [#37]
Hi there, My only friendly advise to you, would be investing/purchasing some website space, and host your demo from the site, putting your demo on sendspace would put some people off, it does for me. What you could also do, is upload your demo to different game portals around, and link to those portal pages instead. An example of one is: http://www.gametrove.net/

Hope this information is of use to you and good luck

Terry B.(Posted 2007) [#38]
Hmm.. Downloaded, played...
It sucked.
And im allergic to dogs.

andy_mc(Posted 2007) [#39]
I tried playing this again, but couldn't find the other dogs I'm meant to speak to.

I did collect enough "pastries" to open the portal and go to the next level though, then I quit because it's too repetitive. The levels are very empty and the enemies are very basic with no animation at all.

Also, why is it snowing all the time?

Xilvan(Posted 2007) [#40]
For a kid the game may be fun to play...

The sniffers has wings animation... they are at level 1... not 0... nor 2... Each monster has his own sound... They attack when you are moving...
Heres their names:
-Mouor
A devil cow's head
-Scccccc....
A bad Snake in the desert
-Stubborn
A Green Ghost Poltergeist
-Hairy
A Light green creature
-Sniffer
A long nose creature with wings

Its snowing cause spirits explore the world from everywhere...

Anyway I should complete the game in XNA and it should rock on XBOX 360...

Naughty Alien(Posted 2007) [#41]
..i have feeling too, that your game should do quite well on Xbox360, done with XNA...really...wider audience and so on..you know what I mean...

TaskMaster(Posted 2007) [#42]

dont forget playstation 3 ;)

elcoo(Posted 2007) [#44]

Not even my brother likes it... he plays "Quack attack" fascinated but this was too boring.
Remember that "Good graphics" (For example funny Snowflakes all over the world) are not the core of a nice game.
I think a really good game has ideas in it's gameplay wich cannot be found in other games. And sorry, but your's has not any interresting aspects.

Maybe you shall develop a totally new game engine, so that your games do not look like made out of dosh.
And give up all you "Amazing" or "Awsome" stuff, cause this makes you sound like a big show-off ;)

Ked(Posted 2007) [#45]

This is the first time ever I've appreciated Noel being unbanned.

Moraldi(Posted 2007) [#46]
If Xylvan is only 15 years old the I suggest you all to remember what you where able to do when you where in his age and remember how that struck in your eyes your creations.
Basically I agree with Brucey.

MadJack(Posted 2007) [#47]
If Xylvan's only 15, then lay off. His 'awsome' comments may be annoying, but he's to be commended for what he's done.

JustLuke(Posted 2007) [#48]
I don't care how old Xylvan is. If he offers his work for criticism then that's what he will receive. This game sucks and it's a carbon copy of his equally sucky Lights of Dreams. His attitude is stubborn, arrogant and sadly deluded. When I was 15 I would never have released a game like this, because I would have recognized how s**t it was. And if I had released something like this, then I would have listened to people's advice and not responded with countless baby tantrums. It's easy to see why the French Blitz community tired of him boasting about his "amazing" skills and about his "amazing" games.

In many countries, at 15 you are just one year away from being legally entitled to marry, have children, and fight and die for your country - but you're too young and precious to take negative criticism without throwing your toys out of the pram or launching into a deluded ego-rant? Please.

Xilvan(Posted 2007) [#49]
Sorry, but I'm a 26 years old programmer/modeller/animator of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Mother Earth...

ANyway I started Candy World on my commodore in 1993... It was in 2D and my dog Candy were young and in great health...

If the game doesnt seem to please people i still have the gift of a new Lilly full of life... not a dog in cemetary...

JustLuke(Posted 2007) [#50]
Are you allowed to bury dogs in cemetaries?

Xilvan(Posted 2007) [#51]
I dont know if candy is in a dog cemetary but some time after she passed away I dreamed of her talking to me...

Naughty Alien(Posted 2007) [#52]
..oouu..

Chroma(Posted 2007) [#53]
I agree with JustLuke.

I totally disagree with MadJack. There's a line between being commended and tooting your own horn to the point that everyone is sick of hearing it, regardless of his age.

MadJack(Posted 2007) [#54]
but I'm a 26 years old programmer/modeller/animator of Montreal

Err - where did it get around then that Xylvan was 15? And if so - all bets are off!

Moraldi(Posted 2007) [#55]
I got it from Brucey above:
I think it's cool that a 15-year old is able to produce and market any game - however good or bad it may be

LineOf7s(Posted 2007) [#56]
I got the impression he was assuming (in a jokey sorta way) he was 15 so that he might have some 'excuse' for various aspects of the game and his personality.

SLotman(Posted 2007) [#57]
Why the dog's shadow is soooo much larger than the dog? And why the chars you talk to doesnt have any shadow at all?

Yeshu777(Posted 2007) [#58]
Criticisms aside he's still achieved more than I have.

andy_mc(Posted 2007) [#59]
Criticisms aside he's still achieved more than I have.

True, but I'm planning to change that. (by writing games, not burning down his house ;-) )
