BSM_Renderer easy made Bumpmapping

Hi folks

Iīve wrote a little function-lib to handle dot3-mapping easier. It based on special colored Cubemaps as underlaying texture behind dot3-textures. You can assign Lightsources to the Cubemaos, to give Bumpmaps a korrekt Light-Direction. The BSM_Lib will handle and update this for you.

This looks interesting - I shall take a look.

To be honest I don't visually see much bump-mapping. This is one of the problems with Blitz3D and I wonder if it is more apparant on some graphics cards than others.

In honesty, on my system, there is only slight bump-mapping on those globes.

Hi Shoda, thanks for sharing.

Puki -it doesn't make much sense to add bumpmapping to a globe IMHO. I'd use it eg. for wet surfaces or so. It may also be neccessary to increase the contrast and/or saturation of the dot3 texture. Additionally you may play with the blendmodes of the texture layers, depending on the situation. I think the diffuse texture should use blendmode 5 an not 2 that is default.

Yeah!
I looked for an old example of the same method in another thread but nobody had the file anymore. I was very keen to understand that method. Presented as a handy library is great!

Thanks Shoda

@Puki :I also thought first that i donīt see much. Then for clearance i disabled the colormap in the source and then obviously you can see a bump map there.

Hey thanks - anything that makes Blitz bumpier (easily) is goooood.

Nice lib! Thank you Shodan. Can I use it with animated meshes?

Shodan(Posted 2007) [#8]
Why not. If you can assign Cubemaps to animated Meshes, it should work.

Thanks a bunch!

I like the asteriod example, that was nice. Much appreciated Shodan for the lib :)

semar(Posted 2007) [#17]
Yup, very nice Shodan, thanks for sharing.

Can the models (asteroids and planets) as well as the textures be used also in other projects ?

Regards,
Sergio.

Shodan(Posted 2007) [#18]
Yes of course.
The earth-texture was from a NASA-Website. And the simple asteroid is made with a modeler within 30 seconds.
