Hi All,

Just a little test of a Polygon hugging camera routine I'm playing about with. This demo does the reverse, orients a model to make the polygon you're aiming at front and centre.

Try it out

Nice idea. Haven't seen anything quite like this anywhere... could be pretty usefull for some modelling apps etc...

Interesting, would work quite well for your Tattoo software? It's a bit tricky to get behind the ear though.

Yeah, it's aimed at lining up projection painting. So you could make certain geometry disappear by selecting it, then when you go to do projection painting, it would line up the polygons to avoid distortion.

Looks nice man. What about zooming the camera automatically depending on the size of the triangles in that area. For instance, if there is lots of nearby, smaller tri's, zoom the camera in more. Because their's a good chance this area will be a curve or perhaps a lip, thus giving you greater control.

Another suggestion. What about attempting to get an average normal/angle of the triangles EDGES. Then, when the cursor gets close to an edge, you tilt the camera towards that angle. This would make it alot easier to turn corners, for places like the ear.

Putting these two suggestions may yield some good results :o)

Good work so far though!

Good ideas Ross C!

There's still some way to go before it's usable in the way I envision, but it's getting there. :)

Thanks for the comments.
