2006.5.26 - Starchon i21 Released!
Iteration 21 of Starchon is available for download

Summary:

Starchon is now a cross between a shooter and a real-time stategy. You can't directly decide where to place your units or which sectors to attack. However, you have a lot of indirect influence over the outcome of the game. The game is real-time, so if you take to long in a sector, you will probably be overrun by the Bio Race in the adjacent sectors. Please give the game a try, and offer your input, because the game play is still being shaped!

Note: [The SPACEBAR toggles between the sector and the galaxy map].

Known Issues:

- Some memory issues which cause the memory to increase every game.
- The weapons upgrade screen is not fully functional.
- High Score functionality is offline at this time.
- The first map is fully functional. However, there is no victory condition at this time.

Looks great! but seems rather difficult, any gameplay tips?

Sean Doherty(Posted 2006) [#3]
1) Use the Partical Rail Gun by selecting the [5] key.
2) Leave the system before you get destroyed.
3) Try to jump to systems where you have allied starships to help.
4) Don't let them destroy your star base.

Any feedback?

Shambler(Posted 2006) [#5]
Yes,

clicking a destination on the Galaxy Map is very difficult, takes me about 15-20 seconds of clicking before it works.

I find a good tip is to go places where there are already friendly ships and help them rather than try to go it alone.

Certainly the game has alot of promise, this is the first 2D game I have enjoyed in a long time ;)

Shambler,

Do you think there is a bug with the Galaxy Map clicking? Are you clicking on the destination star gates? I haven't seen this problem, so can you provide a bit more detail so I can trouble shoot?

Thanks for your comments.

Diablo(Posted 2006) [#7]
I had this problem too. Infact I could only jump once. I
was clicking on the gate looking things. Mabey you should
make 'em glow or somthing when you mouse over.

Apart from that, the idea dose seem awsome so keep it up.

Looks like a bug with the gate clicking, I have been clicking where the red/purple lines terminate ( inside the gate ) but it hardly ever registers.

Sean Doherty(Posted 2006) [#9]
You guys are clicking the gates that the arrows are traveling to? I'll implement some kind of high lighting for the next release.

Shambler(Posted 2006) [#10]
Yes only clicking on the gates that the arrows are travelling to.

Diablo(Posted 2006) [#11]
yup same here.
