Mapcrafter is still kicking. Current version is 1.7 . I added a topic for it in the Blitz Toolbox area, under 3D terrain tools.

Feature rundown.

Drop scenery objects in 2D mode, and fine tune in 3D mode.
Perform lightmapping in both 2D and 3D modes
Save work as models in b3d or .x
Save printable PnP images with or without hex grids
spanning 25 pages (5x5)
Randomly generate 2048x2048 heightmaps
Manually tweak heightmaps/colormaps with brush tools
Autotexture heightmaps based on textures choosen. using
height/slope algorithms
Over 80 scenery objects included with Mapcrafter, and
increasing with each update.
Create maps from the toonish, to the more realistic.

you know any game using mapcrafter?

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#4]
No I dont. I have about 40 users atm though, so its
possible a game or two will use MC maps. I am using a few
models originally created by Banished Studios, who have
given me rights to distribute them with MC. Perhaps thats
what you recognize.

I use MapCrafter, pretty good tool for my work and play (World/Zone creation for work and PnP game play for err play)

It has definetly improved alot in the last few versions, faster, more options, great lightmapping and works well for prototyping zones.

Great price for those who would use it.

Sniff me old tortoise!

How about doing this for a medieval/rpg town too?

In fact, how about a demo version?

Come on, let's have a demo version.

Looks cool. Just thought thought I'd point out something that looks a bit odd in the screen shot. The trees appear to be in shadow, but they cast an extra dark shadow over the shadow thats already there.
