Mapcrafter has gotten some work done on it lately, its been awhile so ill touch on what it does.

it lets you make a map in a 2d editing fastion by painting
the landscape with texture brushes..wich set texture and
heightmap info all at once.

then you can select a small icon image rpresenting an
object, and stamp it anywhere on the landscape.. these
icon stamps range from foiliage to buildings

an example of the 2d editor (shot from old versioin . new
version has newer gui)

http://www.empowergames.com/newmc/MC_2D_edit.JPG?
and you can export to a 3d map.. now with the 3d map you
go into 3d edit mode wich gives you a few more options..
you can further tweak the map by scaling , moving, and
rotaing objects . you can lightmap the scene in various
ways. and export to a .b3d model.. also you can dump
images of the map. wich can be used for pen and paper rpg
games using miniatures.

The dumped images range from small 800x600 to large
3200x2600 with hexagon tiles on them. for PNP games.

Cool - bit like early warcrafts...

RifRaf(Posted 2005) [#6]
Thanks, just a bit more work and i can call it done.
Any modellers want to make ultra low poly model packs for
this .. email me at

Gamemaker04@...
MSN message me, same email for msn
Would be a paying job of coarse.

RifRaf(Posted 2005) [#7]
The fist pic posted above has been updated to reflect the
current appearance of the 2D editing screen

Tommy want wingee!

RifRaf(Posted 2005) [#9]
Example PNP export image.. the image is extremely scaled down .. original image is 16 pages. so that it can be printed for pen and paper miniature gaming.

you can still see from this though how it exports. There is a hex grid over it as well, wich is easier seen at full size.

Why don't you add more 3D screenies to the page. It's an interesting product.

BTW Rifraf - I'd be glad if you could post a little example in the archives on how to save B3D with multiple child meshes.

RifRaf(Posted 2005) [#13]
trying not to bloat the product page.
you can also view a help/tutorial with images here

Could you perhaps do a demo so one could test it before buying? :)

And can you add your own textures and 3D models as it is now?

Are updates free if I buy now?

RifRaf(Posted 2005) [#15]
Updates are free, now and forever. However i am working on model packs and stamp addons for MC that will be sold seperatly.

Upcomming Urban Pack in the works. many of the textures and uv mapping you see in this shot have been improved, and many more models and land textures will be added before it is complete. the models shown are the downtown area. I want to add industrial and residential as wll.

RifRaf(Posted 2005) [#16]
Map Crafter. urban map.Urban pack still a WIP

sampyxis(Posted 2005) [#17]
This looks great.

Do you have a demo to try out?

RifRaf(Posted 2005) [#18]
No not yet.. i dont know if there will be. The program includes alot of media content that i dont want to pass out in a demo. B3D doesnt load from bank (At least ive been unsuccessful), so solid encryption is a joke. There are ways to internally encrypt a b3d file, but i also dont want to limit the app to just b3d input media.

sampyxis(Posted 2005) [#19]
RifRaf,
Makes sense - great looking product.

Do you include .bb samples with it -

RifRaf(Posted 2005) [#20]
No special code is required, it outputs a usable model . you just use loadmesh() on it.

JoeRetro(Posted 2005) [#21]
MapCrafter looks sweeeeeet!

Congratulations RifRaf!

RifRaf(Posted 2005) [#22]
thanks.
another shot. in a demo im making to promote MC a bit.

Mapcrafter has gotten a few updatates, and a user base 25 strong. woowhoo. lol

changes.
2D MODE. -----------------
you can select if you paint with height brush, texture brush, or both.

You can autogenerate heightmaps, and autotexture them. based on the currently selected texture pallette.

You can Load all model/stamp packs, or just the ones you want to work with.

3D MODE -----------------------------
Changes you make to models in 3d mode are saved in the .mc m file, and so when you go back to 2d mode, your 3d changes arent lost.

Building catagory models allow objects to stack on them . meaning in 2d mode, you can place castle, or large building stamp.. then for example stamp a flag or another castle level on top. and in 3d mode it will stack as intended. other objects will stack on buildings catagory objects too, but you wont have to worry about other objects stackin on each other.. like trees ect.
example .. http://www.empowergames.com/mapcrafterpromo/totem_spires_all.jpg?

ROAMER MODE ------------------
cloud cover, and animated water added. as well as water wiggling view when beneath the water.

--PLANS.
I plan to incorperate a network game launcher and client directly into Mapcrafter.. these will allow you to launch with MC maps as your game level, inside the game you will have movement measuring, dice to roll , chat room, and game peices you can drop and move based on rolls. as well as making non player game peices spout dialoge and such. The aim is to have an environment with very loose rules to allow players and game hosts to play in table top style rpg. using whatever rules they like.

It will have very easy to script special effects, dialogues and game peice movement/spawns. to enhance the game play.

Falelorn(Posted 2005) [#24]
MC really is growing fast, good program. Great for making maps for PnP games

RifRaf(Posted 2005) [#25]
Thanks.. Sorry to keep reviving this topic, but Mapcrafter Online is making some progress. Its basically a meeting place to play virtual tabletop PNP rpg games. Heres an early shot.

so far.
you can create, destroy, move ,and rename avatars. Speak in general chat, or through an avatar. load maps, and save/load your game progress.
You can easily measure game space distance from any two points to help players comply with dice rolls.

also the game peices in the pic are just placeholders, im looking for an modeller to make a set to be included with the program.
