In this free arcade game, you're a wild SKATEBOARD PUNK hitched to the back of a HOT ROD, performing tricks at dangerous speeds!

wizzlefish(Posted 2004) [#2]
what an odd game....

do you control the car or the skateboard?

xmlspy(Posted 2004) [#3]
I'll try it out.

xmlspy(Posted 2004) [#4]
Very neat little game, you control the car. Police always gets me!!!

big10p(Posted 2004) [#5]
What do cakes have to do with extreme skateboarding!? :/

Rob(Posted 2004) [#6]
Everything.

agent4125(Posted 2004) [#7]
What do cakes have to do with extreme skateboarding?

Is that a rhetorical question?

big10p(Posted 2004) [#8]
No. Maybe skateboarding's changed since I last did it but I'm pretty sure cakes didn't used to play a significant role. :P

wizzlefish(Posted 2004) [#9]
It's probably is "skate lingo" for "how many times you have to die until you are actually dead"

SoggyP(Posted 2004) [#10]
Hi Folks,

Possibly along the lines of 'That trick was so hardcore, I laid a chocolate eclair in me boxers!'

Later,

Jes

BlitzSupport(Posted 2004) [#11]
Ha, downloading -- I love those Spy Hunter/APB-style graphics!

WolRon(Posted 2004) [#12]
Interesting how much the grass blurs between 100 and 113 mph...

Caff(Posted 2004) [#13]
It's a good laugh

BlitzSupport(Posted 2004) [#14]
Yeah, good fun.

aab(Posted 2004) [#15]
Super idea: so much better than just a car

Hujiklo(Posted 2004) [#16]
Cool little concept dat!

agent4125(Posted 2004) [#17]
Thanks for the comments guys. :)

I just updated the game to make it shorter -- from 3 minutes to 2 minutes, which keeps the variety better, from start to finish. You also don't have to go as far to escape the cops.

Wow this is really addictive. You should add in online high scores.

Good stuff

Réno(Posted 2004) [#19]
I like it ! Joystick suport ??

9572AD(Posted 2004) [#20]
This game is great! I'm not. :( I've always got my guy swinging the wrong way.

It's hilarious, too! ...hey, is that cake?

agent4125(Posted 2004) [#21]
I've ironed out the final bugs and have just released v1.0

Thanks to everyone for your feedback =)

(I added Joystick support, Reno)

Matty(Posted 2004) [#22]
I get a Memory Access Violation the moment the skateboard skates over one of the "skate here" regions behind another car.

Rob Farley(Posted 2004) [#23]
Works fine here... This game is bonkers... I like it!

I would prefer if the skater movement actually had something to do with how you move your car rather than just sliding left and right though.

Damien Sturdy(Posted 2004) [#24]
*bart simpson voice*

Wo hohohowwww, coool!

bloody great mate!

Réno(Posted 2004) [#25]
Great ! You add a lot of little things :) Better with the joystick, but my hi-score is lost now :(

Rob > you can stop the kid sliding by drive him in the grass... it's my technic.

Nice tunes too ! One question, what's the golden thing do for the car ??

agent4125(Posted 2004) [#26]
Wow, you actually got the Golden Muffler! =) Doesn't do anything actually, though I thought of having it raise the minimum speed. It just gives you a large bonus and a neat looking graphic.

Matty, when you jump a car for the first time, the game is supposed to write a small data file to turn off the "skate here" sign. Might there be something with your file permissions or security settings that would prevent this? Or does the MAV happen after a couple of jumps? I can't quite reproduce the problem.

Matty(Posted 2004) [#27]
The MAV happens after the first jump. I don't think I have any security settings that should affect this? I am running Windows 98SE if that is any help. It is being played on my D: drive.

agent4125(Posted 2004) [#28]
Ok, I just updated the game again.

-- Added minor scoring for picking up boost arrows and crashing into beer trucks

-- When picking up the Golden Muffler, your minimum speed will increase from 50 MPH to 60 MPH (and an extra 10 MPH if you pick it up while going 100 MPH)

-- Created default data files, which hopefully fixes the problem that you're running into, Matty.

-- Added you all to the Acknowledgements page. =)

Réno, you can copy the hiscore.dat file over if you don't want to update and keep your top score

Thanks again to everyone!
Agent 4125

Matty(Posted 2004) [#29]
Works fine now, no crashes. I like the message that gets displayed when you have a run in with "THE LAW".

Jeroen(Posted 2004) [#30]
Wow. A very simple concept well produced. Addictive.
One thing; the cops always get me, and I don't think the player is allowed much time to get away from them. And...the penalty is quite high. Can't you let the cops arrest the player and substract an amount of score? And if the score is < 0, the player loses?

agent4125(Posted 2004) [#31]
Thanks Jeroen. My intent was to create a short game where you are guaranteed to play it at least for a couple of minutes (hence no death) but not much longer than that. When time runs out and the cops chase you, the game ends either by them catching you or by you escaping. If I were to just penalize the score, the game could potentially go on forever and the player would drop out after getting bored.

I agree that the cop may be too hard to escape from, though. The trick is to use passing cars as shields, since the cop will run into these and slow down. I think I escape 3 out of every 4 times.

9572AD(Posted 2004) [#32]
Heh, I've never escaped. But I did get the cops to go offscreen once. They came right back, though. :)

Anthony Flack(Posted 2004) [#33]
It's excellent! I like the idea of a game that only lasts a few minutes, and you just try for better scores.

EOF(Posted 2004) [#34]
Sweet game. Nice concept and main characters are sytlistic.
It's one of those games that requires technique to get the best out of the game and therefore it becomes very addictive. Catchy in-game music.
Top drawer stuff Agent!

Grisu(Posted 2004) [#35]
Nice game.

If you want to optimse the package a bit:

Convert your BMP fonts to PNG
UPX the exe.

Will save quite some bandwith and help modem users a lot!

Agamer(Posted 2004) [#36]
wow, that is a really addictive game!

agent4125(Posted 2004) [#37]
I just released v1.02:

-- Added a "Distance to Escape" progress bar so you know how close you are to winning
-- Misc cosmetic improvements
-- Converted BMP images to PNG; this doesn't really have an effect on the zip size, but it takes up 1MB less in drive space, FWIW

Thanks to everyone who's commented since the last update!

Agent4125

Grisu(Posted 2004) [#38]
Hi Agent:

Uploaded v1.02 (Perfectionist):
- Upxed the exe
- Optimised all gfxs

Saves about 300kb for the zip + 1,1 MB HDD space!
http://legion.gibbering.net/grisu/thrasher_new.zip (1.4 MB)

agent4125(Posted 2004) [#39]
I'm getting a "Page Not Found" error from that link. Can you repost? Thanks for your interest in optimising this; I'm not familiar with UPX, but I'll check it out.

Grisu(Posted 2004) [#40]
Try this: http://legion.gibbering.net/grisu/thrasher_new.zip (1.4 MB)

Can you send me an empty e-mail?
Will submit the file to you then...

Rottbott(Posted 2004) [#41]
This is really good :-) I'll be playing it for a while!

Richard Betson(Posted 2004) [#42]
cool;)

L8r,

Grisu(Posted 2004) [#43]
Can I delete my Zip, Agent?

agent4125(Posted 2004) [#44]
Yep I got it, Grisu, sorry for not replying. And thanks again. =)

clownhunter(Posted 2004) [#45]
I love this game so much! I got it a while ago and I am still playing it. My hi-score is 5126!

Grisu(Posted 2004) [#46]
oki doki & np!

agent4125(Posted 2004) [#47]
Updated to v1.03 with optimized graphics and executable.

Glad you dig it, Clown Hunter. My high score is in the 8000's. I figure 10,000 is about the highest you can get if you really nail all the bonuses and are always going at least 100 mph.

clownhunter(Posted 2004) [#48]
8000??? How did you get that??? I barely got 5126!

Réno(Posted 2004) [#49]
7240 without escaping the cops here !!

Clap, clap, clap... "thanks, thanks..." :)

agent4125(Posted 2004) [#50]
I think the key is to ram the Beer trucks, and hit as many jumps as you can while going over 100 MPH, since they give you triple score (300+ points each).

My new high score is 9154!

(updated to v1.04 to fix a screenshot bug)

clownhunter(Posted 2004) [#51]
Cheaters. Well I got 12836! :)

Réno(Posted 2004) [#52]
Arggg !!!

clownhunter(Posted 2004) [#53]
Oh, new hi-score 5,782,937,587,381,947, beat that Agent4125!

Orgull(Posted 2005) [#54]
Ha Ha!

Very cool game, good job agent4125...
