Hi,

I haven't downloaded the demo of Giles[s] yet, but I will do soon. It looks great.

I was just wondering if, Giles[s], or any other lightmapper, can cast shadow patterns through 2D Sprites onto nearbye objects.

For example, I have a lot of trees in one of my outdoor scenes and I want to use Global Illumination.

The trunks of the trees are 3D objects - and will of course produce a shadow. But the foliage (leaves and branches etc) are 2D Sprites with a colour mask applied.

I would like the foliage to cast shadows onto the ground also.

Is this possible?

Cheers,

RV

Hi,

You should use the gile[s] forum for all your questions :)

But here is the answer:

gile[s] does not support Blitz sprites, but if you make the leaves/foliage as flat polygon meshes (or any other kind of mesh) there is no problem with getting them to cast shadows!

The reason I don't support sprites, is that there is no standard way of loading them into Blitz, and (depending on your spriteviewmode settings) they don't have a fixed orientation which will make shadows look weird :)

There is a screenshot of some trees made by wmaass in the screenshots board on the gile[s] forum.

I use giles to cast shadows through my textures so the answer is yes.
