it makes tiles, and can save the ones you like.

well, I had to start somewhere.

would value feedback etc. if anyone cares to have a look

filesize 756K.

The grandly named TILESTAR

you can see one of its tiles at the download page :)

cheers.

i don't have use for such a thing but nice effects anyway :).

I like, an original idea... I reckon the following things would improve it:

1. Make it so you can put any number of textures in a folder, in different formats and with different names. I tried my own, renaming to tile_01.jpg etc. was a bit cumbersome.
2. Let the user choose the width / height of the outputted tile, (most 3d textures are squares in powers of 2, e.g. 64x64, 128x128, 256x256, 512x512)
3. Apply lots more effects to the tile output, e.g. distortion, randomisation etc. to give it a wildly different output. If you start with boring textures (like mine) they still look a bit samey.
4. Perhaps an option to smooth over the joins, so the tiles join more naturally.

This would then be a handy tool for generating a completely new set of varied textures. I do like the way you can just keep skipping through them and choose the one you like, rather than most programs which assume you have an idea you want to put to pen.

Personally I am building a large texture-base at the moment, and something like this would help for those moments where your brain gets stuck :)

Oh and the name's good too :)

ok, thanks for the suggestions.

agreed it is a bit cumbersome, thanks Caff.

depends on the purpose of your app..

Do you want an app that randomly generates a complete tile for you, or do you want a full texture-editor?

btw.. left and right modify the random seed, but as far as I'm concerned, each texture is completely different. So browsing left/right wouldn't be much different than pressing the spacebar for this.

So browsing left/right wouldn't be much different than pressing the spacebar for this.

the source pics have different qualities and colour orientations to a degree, so not changing the source is more likely to generate a tile with similar colour etc.

I've put in a thumbnail view, so the user can have an idea of the source pic that the tile is seeded from.

user can set width and height of the tile if desired - this is a good idea.

and can put user pics in a folder to be read as sources for the tiles.

um...

thats all I think.

no, its not supposed to be a full texture editor, more for my friends who moan about getting a good tile for their website - I thought "I'll give you tiles!"

so its a pretty low end thing, for fun and learning.

thanks for the feedback.

I've tried the latest one but it seems to crash on startup...
