Blitz Research Needs You!

Contributions are now being solicited for the penultimate Blitz demodisk of the century.

We are looking for demos and code in the following categories:

* GAME DEMOS (source code optional) - a great way to get your demo spread!

* WORKS-IN-PROGRESS (source code optional) - even if your game's not quite there yet, send it in anyway!

* TECHNICAL DEMOS (source code preferable) - help us show the world what Blitz is really capable of!

* PUBLIC DOMAIN (source code mandatory) - anything considered; the more 'off the wall', the better.

* MISCELLANEOUS - reserved for those truly unique entries!

Please send all offerings by link or attachment to demodisk1@...

Please double check your files before sending and include entry category and a short description.

If you are submitting a demo of a commercial game, feel free to include some HTML advertising it and
linking to the full version.

Glory and praise to be offered in gratuitous quantity to all entries accepted.

Team Blitz

You will update Blitz CDROM ?
I can make gift of one arm. :)

JoshK(Posted 2003) [#3]
Mark, when do you need these?

marksibly(Posted 2003) [#4]

Mark, when do you need these?

Until the CD fills up!

Actually, I think this should be ongoing.

When we fill up CD1, we'll start on CD2 etc.

Red(Posted 2003) [#5]
it's a new pack ? or an update ?

marksibly(Posted 2003) [#6]
Hi,

Its mainly a promotional thing, but will also allow us to get some experience at putting product onto a CD.

Basically, we plan to spread the CD far and wide to get Blitz some more attention!

Drago(Posted 2003) [#7]
You could put all entries for the blitz compo's that have been held, since there are some pretty good stuff in them.

This could include the Stupid, and 8bit Compos off Blitzcoder. :)

Bagels(Posted 2003) [#8]
Just curious - are you interested in demos involving older 2D (original BB) stuff as well?

marksibly(Posted 2003) [#9]

are you interested in demos involving older 2D (original BB) stuff as well?

Yep! Anthing Blitz (PC).

Inner(Posted 2003) [#10]
right'o see what I can dig up.

FlameDuck(Posted 2003) [#11]
Contributions are now being solicited for the penultimate Blitz demodisk of the century.
Shock and Awe!

I'm guessing most of my contributions will be in the "Miscellaneous" department. If they're even considered. :o>

Red(Posted 2003) [#12]
It would be cool to have a courtesy list at the end. :)

Gurney(Posted 2003) [#13]
Hey Mark, we really appriciate Blitz.

Have a look at Claim Stake on our site. http://www.claimstake.com If you register, you can download the demo and check it out, but this is not permission to use it yet. We would be happy to help, but I am concerned about the mass distribution of a Prototype, made by New Pencil. How clear would it be that this is a prototype? Who would get it?

Thanks

Rob Farley(Posted 2003) [#14]
Mark you're more than welcome to use the apps I've put on the showcase:

Texture Transition Creator

Terrain Shader

Droplet

I'll see if I can come up with some whoopy-doopy thing too that looks pretty!

skidracer(Posted 2003) [#15]
Please send all offerings by link or attachment to demodisk1@...

mrtricks(Posted 2003) [#16]
I just tried to send two demos (6Mb in total) and the email was returned to me saying a limit had been exceeded. Is there a cap on uploads?

skn3(Posted 2003) [#17]
will something liek this ...

Be acceptable. It is not finished, but it will be soon, and its totaly free with online play etc.. so I would be happy to give you a fullversion for this cd.

ckob(Posted 2003) [#18]
hey i remember playing that game on the atari skn3[ac].

Mark you can count on binarypeople to help :)

HNPhan(Posted 2003) [#19]
yes count me in!!! Id like to contribute with a my "Island Paradise Demo"

ill send you an email tonight

(tu) ENAY(Posted 2003) [#20]
What about lots of pics or movie files of upcoming blitz games showing what games are being developed in Blitz but are yet unavailable for the CD (beta etc) ?

Anthony Flack(Posted 2003) [#21]
Hmmm - how long away is it?

I could contribute the old Cletus demo; I don't mind - but currently the game is in no state to be seen so it would have to be the old demo...

Or perhaps it would be better to wait for the next demo CD and contribute the full demo when it's finished in a few months?

skidracer(Posted 2003) [#22]
Woohoo! 105MB of goodness to date. Thanks all so far!

mrtricks, maybe try sending in two separate emails?

skn3[ac], don't forget deli dash, we don't have nearly enough edibles:)

As the sign says:

Please send all offerings by link or attachment to demodisk1@...

Offers in this thread are not being accepted so some form of email please.

mrtricks(Posted 2003) [#23]
Will do skidracer, as soon as I'm next in work (they've got broadband)

*(Posted 2003) [#24]
Sent ya a game to put on there =), hope ya like it =). I would say put the Hunted demo on there but its not completed yet.

You can put the 5-a-Side demo on there if you want ;). The file is available at ( http://blitz.idigicon.com/Project_Detail.asp?ProjectName=5-a-Side ).

FlameDuck(Posted 2003) [#25]
Offers in this thread are not being accepted so some form of email please.

Litobyte(Posted 2003) [#26]
http://www.nofrontier.it/bubbletrouble/

I'm asking to Idigicon If is possible to send over the 2 levels demo.

Anthony Flack(Posted 2003) [#27]
How much time do we have?
I'd prefer to submit something a bit more complete than I currently have, you see... I don't mind submitting the old demo but maybe a GOOD demo on the next CD would be better?

Richard Betson(Posted 2003) [#28]
I'll need a week - But I'll be sending some :)

Go BlitzMax (I'm dieing to go to Linux) :)

L8r,

(tu) ENAY(Posted 2003) [#29]
So still no pictures or mpegs of blitz games in progress but with unsubmittable .exes?

skidracer(Posted 2003) [#30]
Will get back to you on that one, I personally think it's a great idea for the demo disk to include a slideshow.

Rob Farley(Posted 2003) [#31]
Skid, instead of a slideshow per-se why not have a sort of showcase web site on the disk?

People submit say 5 screenshots and a bit of text explaining what their game is about maybe a link to their site too, the screenshots should be 640x480 and the thumbs 160 x 120 for example.

Just a thought.

Grisu(Posted 2003) [#32]
I'd like to contribute BlitzCoder Memory, but I'm not sure if this pseudo 3D cards game is good enough to compete with the other games mentioned above?!?

Also not all features and music files are finished yet. Most importantly a Mark Sibly master card is still missing!!! :)

*looks helpless*

Cybio(Posted 2003) [#33]
Ok Mark, will send the "Magic Forest" to you.
It is the technical demo of the contest that you had
organized.

Regards,

Thierry

Zo Zo Zee Zar(Posted 2003) [#34]
I've sent a demo of Binman

robleong(Posted 2003) [#35]
Will send a demo of a 2D Defenders clone.

Robert.

SSS(Posted 2003) [#36]
if i get far enough you can have my game, see post below

Mark Tiffany(Posted 2003) [#37]
What post below? Or is that the name of your game?

SSS(Posted 2003) [#38]
the post just below this one by me

well anyway my game is at members.lycos.co.uk/littleboy55/Projects
and then Platformer.zip

Mark Tiffany(Posted 2003) [#39]
Aha. I see. Now. ;-)

Zo Zo Zee Zar(Posted 2003) [#40]
SSS - remember to email the link to to demodisk1@...

Simon S(Posted 2003) [#41]
There, posted an email.

How will they react when they realise Blitz has been used for Bloody Murder?

jfk EO-11110(Posted 2003) [#42]
Kinda missed it.

Simon S(Posted 2003) [#43]
Oh well. That's what I get for not doing regular rounds of the 24 or so forums.

skidracer(Posted 2003) [#44]
We're now about half full, so keep em coming!

Raz(Posted 2003) [#45]
can we assume that what has been sent has been accepted?

More importantly (to me ;) can I find out if what I sent has been accepted?

Simon S(Posted 2003) [#46]
So you're still accepting submissions. That's good, but norc, what on earth is with the "kinda missed it" comment?

skidracer(Posted 2003) [#47]
Raz, a contents listing will be listed once the CD is finalized.

Litobyte(Posted 2003) [#48]
Please wait for BubbleTrouble demo version,

I should be able to send over the downloading link for monday.

jfk EO-11110(Posted 2003) [#49]
EDIT: Unfortunately all of a sudden I am busy with a commercial comission, sorry for that. That said - I wasn't sure anyway if "Call to arms" as a statement was directed to me. Need some pepper and salt?

skidracer(Posted 2003) [#50]
I can't make any promises or give any deadlines, I'd just like to encourage you to work as hard as possible to get OCP into a demo state so it can be featured along side all of the other goodness so far received.

When we fill up CD1, we'll start on CD2 etc.

wedoe(Posted 2003) [#51]
Coooool :)

[edit]For some reason this comment ended up somewhere on this theread where it should not be.
It was supposed to be a comment to the "Bloody Murder" game...[/edit]

Paul "Taiphoz"(Posted 2003) [#52]
Im wondering about copyright ? I got a game I could send that I used and am using some GFX from an old arcade. So the art work isnt mine. Would this be ok to add or not ?

^^ @ Mark.

Raz(Posted 2003) [#53]
Raz, a contents listing will be listed once the CD is finalized.
Ok thanks :)

_Skully(Posted 2003) [#54]
Hi Mark,

Good to see things going this direction if you know what I mean :)

Anyway, I have been out of the picture for quite some time due to coursing, new job learning curve, etc but the wheels for my GalAxis game are coming back online as all those have pretty much stablized. I will be back around again in full force very soon.

I know its not much but for the CD you are welcome to put Santa's Slay and TerraScape on it:

Santa's Slay: http://24.69.16.68/SantasSlay/index.htm
Download @ http://24.69.16.68/files/SantaSlay1.7.zip

TerraScape:

Bagels(Posted 2003) [#55]
I submitted a demo to this a while ago, but I've since improved upon it considerably. Can I send in to replace the older version with the new one?

skidracer(Posted 2003) [#56]
Bagels - Yes indeed.

Skully - Please send the links to demodisk1@...

Tracer(Posted 2003) [#57]
mark/simon,

I'll need about two weeks to get my game in a playable state (ie: waiting for gfx... ;) ) .. i would love to get you guys a 5 level demo of the game.. is two weeks alright?

Tracer

(tu) ENAY(Posted 2003) [#58]
How many megs is the CD now?
Also how many games demos/utils, source codes have you got? :)

skidracer(Posted 2003) [#59]
it's nearly there and not quite enough!

Red(Posted 2003) [#60]
What do you need more now ?

skidracer(Posted 2003) [#61]
There's 2-3 cool things arriving daily at the moment, most from people who aren't regulars from around here (as I thought forum users are in no way majority of the productive blitz users out there).

Loathed to chase up stuff I was hoping would be volunteered (mr pickford for example) so will probably be doin that Thursday night and finalizing the content this weekend.

(tu) sinu(Posted 2003) [#62]
hopefully i can get my demo upto scratch(even after my hdd crash), show people my 3d platformer and get it on the cd.

Anthony Flack(Posted 2003) [#63]
Damn, no chance I'm gonna make this one then, even though I've been animating my guts out :o(

Well on the positive side I guess that means I'll be able to get a really nice demo together for the next one...

Mustang(Posted 2003) [#64]
I've been animating my guts out

...So you are making a horror game then? ;)

Dr Derek Doctors(Posted 2003) [#65]
I'd volunteer Cybernoid 2 but there's probably a buttload of copyright reasons why I can't given that the disc is gonna' be bundled with a commercial product, right?

Anthony Flack(Posted 2003) [#66]
Okay, not quite, but I've been animating some alien's guts out... it may get a little messy...

SopiSoft(Posted 2003) [#67]
My game called "Pea-Guy: Defeating Dr.Robotica" will be finished at the end of April, that's when the deadline for the game is. It will be published by Astral Entertainment.

I'll send the demo to Mark, it's around 12MB

...and it will soon be available to the Blitz community also!

(tu) ENAY(Posted 2003) [#68]
Will there be a listing to see what's on the disk so far?

Neo Genesis10(Posted 2003) [#69]
Tech demo time methinks...

cyberseth(Posted 2003) [#70]
Penultimate demodisk of the century? I kinda feel sorry for the next 97 years! :P

SSS(Posted 2003) [#71]
can u guys publish an up to date list on everything on the CD

Psycoach(Posted 2003) [#72]
5 days are gone since SSS request and there is still no answer...

starfox(Posted 2003) [#73]
Simon posted a list a while ago
link here

Litobyte(Posted 2003) [#74]
Hey funny looking at other games/demos I thought my game was ONE OF the best done in Blitz3D.

Basically, we plan to spread the CD far and wide to get Blitz some more attention!
With Bubble Bomb but not with Bubble Trouble...I'm surprised! :-)

(tu) ENAY(Posted 2003) [#75]
Oh look. This topic's stickyness has worn off.

skidracer(Posted 2003) [#76]
Zurk173, apologies, I have just sent you an email to get things sorted out.

Michael Reitzenstein(Posted 2003) [#77]
Hey funny looking at other games/demos I thought my game was one of the best done in Blitz3D.

And modest, too! :P

EOF(Posted 2003) [#78]
Cave Rescue links sent ..

Hey, since the sticky plaster has fallen off does that mean DemoDisk#1 is full?!
