Congrats. The detail in that screen-shot is lost in the blurry video though.

And in general, it would be good if people uploaded to the Blitz Gallery too - as in the past :)

I did'nt know it was possible to upload on the Gallery :-) Ok done.
Yes, I don't know why the screenshot is displayed so big, it should be 1680x1050...

Congrats on the release! Btw, I heard about the game through a mutual friend of ours, Terri Hardie.

I'm also glad you've made a Halloween game in your own style (i.e. not like Spooky Bonus), unlike this game:: http://www.bigfishgames.com/games/14056/save-halloween-city-of-witches/

Thanks Jake. It was released 'just' in time on BFG. Maybe too late... I wonder how it will goes after the halloween day. But I was happy that it was not released at the same time as the two other M3 halloween games, especially what seemed a blatant clone of Spooky. When I saw the first screenshot of "Save Halloween", I thought "Oh my, Jake is releasing and updated version of Spooky Bonus" ;-/
And then I realised it was another team...
I followed with interrest your intervention on BFG forum and I can share how you felt.
Thruth is that it is not that easy to make a Halloween theme game avoiding the clichés. When we started to design it at the beginning of 2015 I gave a lot of attention to try to stand out from SB design, but some objects are too obvious to be avoided (bat, pumpkin, ghost, skull...).
Creativitly speaking it is also interresting to have a very rigid 'frame' and try to make it more personal. But not too personal or people will not find what they expect.

Hi Pingus, yeah even some customers said they thought Save Halloween was a sequel to mine. Others said the similarities were coincidental and normal but it's obvious they weren't. I looked into it in detail and took screenshots etc, it's shocking, and my dev friends agree. BFG deleted the thread

The game is also on Steam Greenlight but hasn't been Greenlit yet in time for Halloween. I commented on their GL page but they deleted my comment. I don't normally wish other developers bad luck, but I'm glad it hasn't been GL yet to compete with my Spooky Bonus launch on Steam.

I agree that there are certain things about Halloween that are too obvious to be avoided like you say, and that's fine, but those devs copied mechanics, graphics (so many), and even tutorial text. It was crazy, worst case of copying I've ever had. Some people I consulted say I'd have a chance at winning a legal case, but I think the mental energy drain and cost would just be too much for me right now. I have to focus on my next game.

I know that we are all making match-3s/solitaire games, and some things will be similar/inspired, but devs should really try to do things their own way instead of 100% copying something else. That's why I wish you the best of luck with your game as you know how to be honourable in game dev!

Another friend of mine made this game: http://www.bigfishgames.com/games/11292/queens-garden-halloween/?pc and it looks different from Spooky Bonus (and is hopefully different from others too).

Sales will drop after Halloween but you are at 16 in the top 100 charts now so should make some good money. Not sure about next year now, the seasonal space is very crowded these days.

Oh btw, is that French site any good and if so who do I contact to get on there? Feel free to email me if you don't want to post publicly. Thx!

Copying tutorial texts is indeed quite 'lame' to say the least.
I also don't think that the legal route worth the time and money you would spend on this. Better use that energy to make games :)

I noticed that Queens-garden is using Unity and therefore they have an Android version, if only bmax would allow this... you know what it is when people ask you "can I play it on my tablet ?"... ah no...

Grey Alien(Posted 2015) [#9]
Yep people are often asking to play my games on mobile. However, I'm not sure the time/effort is worth it for the $. I prefer to focus just on PC/Mac.

Actually 10 th rank on BFG !!
Yeah :)
Since the era of F2P on PC we never entered in the top 10. In a certain way that achievement was possible with the help of great people from here, who helped to sort out issues not covered 'natively' by bmax (like touch screen, system directories...).
Thanks guys !

That's great going! Higher than Spooky Bonus got (14). Well done indeed! Yes since F2P and also BFG exclusive titles (and BFG Casino/Gummy Drop stuck in top 10), getting *close* to top 10 is all I ever hoped for, so getting in it is really great.
