A FPS/RTS in the spirit of Battlezone 2. This time around the FPS elemet will feel more developed. This is a continuation of a projected I started a year ago while securing my degree in Game Design. I wrote an extensive design document for this project. It also exists as a board game and a 2d turn based strategy game which could surface at a later date. At this point game is in the closed Alpha stage right now. I will release more details about this project once my website is finished. I'm putting heavy emphasis on base management but also exploration which can lead to combat. Multiplayer is a planned feature.

Everything is WIP. Additional screens will be posted here soon:

Is this actually licensed from Taito?

Imperium(Posted 2013) [#5]
I haven't the slightest idea what your talking about? Please explain.

Edited:
Quick google search turned this up.

No relation whatsoever. In my story the designation of your terraforming group is 7 out of hundreds so this was by coincidence. The word Colony is so generic that it's safe to use for another game. You can't copyright a word. Besides my title is Colony 7 : Mission Enceladus. No need for a license from Taito. But that certainly was an interesting find!

I would love to see a print and play version of this.

You can't copyright a word, but you CAN trademark it... which Taito actually did:

https://www.trademarkia.com/colony-7-73457708.html

...But you're in luck, since apparently their trademark was canceled / expired in 2005, so you're probably OK using the phrase now.

(Had it NOT expired, then they could very well prevent you from using it... As a matter of fact, if a trademark owner doesn't defend their patent they risk losing it altogether, so they are pretty much required to go after people using their protected trademarks)

Derron(Posted 2013) [#10]
You do not have to care about trademarks if they are not registered in your country. There is no "global law" concerning that area (some people whish it would exist... but I am getting sick when thinking on the Americanization of our German immaterial-laws aka patents/trademarks...).

But - if you want others to make it available (download sites, publishing, ...) in a country where the title is trademarked these persons will run into problems (was forced to pay a bigger amount of money for providing a freeware game years ago - in the Netherlands the background image did not break a right but in Germany the rising Sun on red background is a registered trademark/picture-mark (dunno the word) for digital and analog games).

So it may not hit YOU but others to use a registered word/picture/soundstyle/dna/...

Hmmm very interesting... I'm not 100% sure on the title yet but I won't worry about this. I suppose it could change to Colony 4 or Mission : Enceladus "Colony 7" but yeah this trademark stuff is pretty ridiculous. Every word is likely trademarked in some fashion just like every single English word has been a movie title.

The games coming along well, I still learning what you can and cannot do with Blitz. Modeling and texturing all the assets takes a bit of time but I like to bounce around on everything so I don't get bored. Some weeks I work on the art while others the code side of things. Unfortunately the board game prototype got wet in storage so I threw it out but the cards survived. I'll mockup a render of what the board game looked like. It used bingo chips to represent the enemy blips on the board. I'll post the artwork for the rulebook once I figure out which of my 20 thumb drives I saved it on.
