Right or left?

I would say the right hand side, but the edges need a little bit of blur (unless they are as I can't tell from that image).
Something that may be of interest to you.

Would have thought it's a matter of preference, really?

Unless you've hit on a secret nobody else has, there's no way to access B3D's depth buffer with enough accuracy to use it for shadow systems, so while the Wolfire article is very interesting... it's also referring to a system that can't be used with this particular engine.

(For the sake of interest, the closest thing to depth-based shadows I've seen anyone manage in B3D is this: http://www.blitzbasic.com/codearcs/codearcs.php?code=2792

It's really cool to look at but sadly not usable in a realtime system.)

The system established by Yasha link is very slow, but it looks very good, good I think.

I for one think that as Yasha says is the way I think is right.
