BlitzMax Linux No Sound!!!

Hi, I am running Ubuntu Linux and when I use any sample programs of blitzmax, I get no audio in the examples. What should I do? Would I need to install the OpenAL libraries? How do I do this if needed? Thanks in Advance!

That and the Linux forum, which is more or less 100% about BlitzMax since the other two don't run there. This has been an issue for several people and there are ongoing long discussions on the subject.
