These nasty little home pages have nestled themselves into firefox. IE, is immune though - had my first blue screen of death today after uninstaaling bull gaurd, installing kapersky, starting firefox in 'safe 'mode', despite doing this searchnu searchqu remains persistent.

Installed Spydoctor - this failed to detect it.

Anyone else got rid of this pain from firefox?

Never heard of it to be honest, but I dont use Firefox.

You could try running HiJackThis and locating the registry keys and files responsible. If it's a virus-thing, there really ought to be some information on removal from perhaps Symantec or the like

Got microsoft security essentials and malwarebytes.

@Malice - cheers that worked

@GfK, thx for the suggestion - got a crapola spydoctor problem that did not do what it said on the tin.

EVEN BETTER than that - the trial version detected 10 or so things that required 'addressing'. The installed one seemed to find nadda. AND searchnu still persisted in Firefox untill an uninstall -re-install.

Hijackthis found it in Chrome though :~)

Hijackthis is good but you got to be careful with it. Not everything it flags up actually needs attention and some things should be left well alone.

Get SpyBot, it's a bit more focused towards internet use (bad cookies, malware URLs etc.).
