does anyone have any suggestions for a basic soundcard that can be delivered in the US?

As far as soundcards is concerned, pretty much anything will work these days, as long as there are drivers for whatever OS you are running.

(although depending on how many speakers you intend to connect, take note of the available output ports. If you intend to use surround sound speakers AND a microphone at the same time, I'd suggest a 5-port card instead of the 3-port ones)

Don't all motherboards have on-board sound these days? How "basic" do you want?

well my soundcard totally stopped working, couldnt even get the volume control on windows to work, (it was greyed out)

So i did a bunch of things which didnt work, I uninstalled the hardware and re-installed (on windows device manager) and I think that may have done it. So its fixed now,
thanks for the replies

This happens when no driver is detected.
