Hi,

I need help to make this thrust sound playable in a loop.
http://www.skopia.de/thrust.wav
Trying my luck with audacity to remove the click
at the beginning failed, so if anyone would be so nice..

Believe it or not, I found that the only prog that could remove the click generated by other programs was Windows Sound Recorder (sndrec32.exe) by moving the slider to 1/2 second from the end then clicking Edit>Delete After Position.

If you're thinking of buying a DAW anytime soon, get SoundForge. It has a LoopTuner tool that serves precisely for aligning extremities of looping selections to avoid clicking.

Starting sample: -15.9 dB
Ending sample: -23.5 dB

Big difference in volume, expressed by that click. You needed to cut a bit until the two ends meet in both volume and curve-shape.

You can get the loop here: http://www.4shared.com/audio/ImMrN3XU/thrustLoop.html

@John
No such option under Win7 :-(

@Kryzon Thanks.
Funny, it sounds a bit like a pumping heart now.
Will take a look at SoundForge.

Ha-ha. Thanks, Microsoft. <sigh>

Sound Recorder? Seriously? :/

If it's just a .WAV, then go grab the trial version of Wavepad. It's a powerful sound editor, and the free version gives you access to most of the essential tools, including the ability to edit INDIVIDUAL SAMPLES in a sound, rather than being constrained to time spans. I usually use Wavepad free edition to edit my SFX, then save them as a .WAV, then use Audacity if I need to convert something to .MP3 because that's a locked feature in Wavepad free. I've never had this tool combo let me down yet.

Ok, for flash (monkey) I need a looping mp3.
My odyssey:
WavePad, dbPowerAmp,
mp3loop (http://www.compuphase.com/mp3/mp3loops.htm), mpTrim.
The most programs add a space at the beginning and at the end.
No success. This is somehow getting complicated.

Adam Novagen(Posted 2011) [#8]
That's because ALL MP3s have a space at the beginning. It's a part of the MP3 file structure, and if you're exporting as an MP3, it can't be avoided.

If possible, use OGG format instead (Audacity should be able to export in that too). OGG compression is generally regarded as better quality byte-for-byte as MP3 anyway; an OGG usually sounds better than an MP3 of roughly equal filesize.

Kryzon(Posted 2011) [#9]
Oh yeah, you can't avoid blank spaces in MP3 because the MP3 format is structured with fixed-size blocks. If your data doesn't evenly occupies all blocks (it rarely does), your program has to generate extra blocks at the start or end it so it fits properly, and since these extra blocks are mostly unnocupied with the "exceeding" data, you get silence.

As Adam said, OGG is good and royalty free. If possible, always export using the highest VBR profile available. The variable nature of this kind of compression compresses each file to their best, so it's more efficient.
