Does anyone have experience dealing with mass emails?

I have over 20k+ users and would like to create a newsletter, or "Come back and try new features" type system for inactives.

Anyone use software for this type of thing, or just custom scripts on your own servers?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Try http://www.yourmailinglistprovider.com/

If you use scripts on your own servers to do it, it'll work perfectly well until your domain gets blacklisted for sending out spam. If you're on shared hosting you might also find that you're in breach of the T&C and could end up getting suspended.

Awesome! Thanks GFK.

No issues with T&C, the server I intended on using is fully dedicated.

Cheers

And keep in mind: even if you AREN'T sending spam, you're still bound to a get a ton of people who down the road decide they are no longer interested in your mailings.

Instead of taking 5 second to properly unsubscribe, a lot of people (unfortunately) just drag them to their spam folder instead. 'problem' solved for them, but unfortunately a side-effect of that is that their ISP can flag you as a spammer and start rejecting all your stuff.

MailChimp might be interesting for you as well.

If you are going to do this make sure you include an opt out link that you server will remove said address. Otherwise u might get blacklisted.
