HDMI Splitter

Hi there. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? I have purchased an HDMI splitter, which claimed to take one signal and split it into two.

What i'm after is displaying a HDMI signal on two sources at once, both with sound. It's mainly for ease of use, as my PS3 is connected to my PC monitor and my TV. I want to be able to just switch on my PS3 and put on either my monitor or TV, depending on what the missus is doing.

the vast majority of HDMI splitters out there take multiple inputs and a single output, to expand the number of HDMI ports available to a single TV.

For multiple *output* devices, do a search for "HDMI Matrix"

They are more expensive than simple multiple-to-single splitters, but multiple outputs is more complicated to accomplish thanks to how HDCP (content protection) works.

Couple of samples: (note that quality varies greatly, so do some research and look at reviews as well, to see if people report any issues with using it with a PS3)

I was thinking it would have to be some kind of powered device. Thanks for that man. Much appreciated!

A 4x2 (4 inputs to 2 outputs) matrix is really overkill for what you want.

If you're not bothered about future expandability, and you want to save a few quid, then your situation only calls for a two way splitter.

A quick terminology guide to spare confusion:-
========= HDMI Gubbins =========
Switch   = Multiple to Single
Matrix = Multiple to Multiple (*usually* in any combination)
Splitter = Single to Multiple

Switch Splitter = A switch with a nWay splitter on the output

As it appears that you've already purchased all you need, you should be good to go. :o)

It doesn't work though... It will only display on one device, not both.

If it's one of those dodgy passive 'Y' splitter cables from ebay, or some such place, I suggest you use it for self-flagellation immediately. This is partly because your eternal soul will require cleansing after purchasing such a thing, but mostly because that's about *all* they're bleedin good for. ;o)

I kind of assumed we were talking about a decent active splitter like this.
