| Hey folks! I'm looking for a free to download(Not a trial version) FTP Client, that will allow me to connect to an FTP website, download and upload files so that I can update it. Also it must be for Windows. All I've been able to find on my own are trial versions, and FileZilla, which doesn't seem to work. I can download files, modify them, then 'apparently' reupload them, but the site doesn't seem to be updated ;( Cheers! |

| I was going to... no, I AM going to recommend Filezilla. You are probably seeing a cached copy of the old page. Sometimes for the new files to 'change' you need to force your browser to reload the page from the server - try CTRL+F5. |

| I'd have to assume that you're doing something wrong with Filezilla. It has had certain issues over the years but if it fundamentally didn't work in the manner you're suggesting, I wouldn't have been able to use it for various sites over the past three or four years. |

| You can do this in Windows without a separate FTP client. For example, in Windows 7, you right click on Computer in Windows Explorer and select Add a network location. Fill in the details and then you have a folder added to Computer that lets you access your FTP site just like any other folder. Alternatively, if you use Fire Fox, try the FireFTP plugin. | I'll poke around and see what I'm doing wrong with Filezilla. Any files that I update seem to be udpated in the server file list, but then when I try to close filezilla it warns me that some files I was editing have not been uploaded... So I'm doing something wrong then, lol. I'll try big10p's suggestion of just adding a new network location on windows 7. Sounds like it would be easier ;) Thanks, I'll post back with an update shortly, |

What on earth are you doing? Are you trying to live edit the files while they're still on the server or something? Filezilla is pretty straightforward by default. Right panel is the server. Left panel is your hard drive. Drag things from the right panel to the left to download them. Edit them in the left panel or direct from the hard drive. Drag them from the left panel to the right to upload them again. |

| I prefered SmartFTP but it's no longer Freeware. So Filezilla has to do. |

| Bit confused here. Why are you lot using 3rd party clients when Windows has the functionality built in? |

| Ive been having issues with Filezilla recently... it uploads files, then uploads the same files again and again and again... | he he he, found out what I was doing wrong. I was editing the wrong page instead of the home page, thus I couldn't see any of the changes I'd made, since I kept looking at the home page. I feel like such a dumb *ss, lol. Although I have found that just using Windows 7 works great, instead of bothering with third party software. | I stumbled across CyberDuck recently as well and I'm sold. Not quite as great as my foggy memory makes the old old Fetch out to be but far better and less quirky than anything else like filezilla (which is not bad, just very cluttered for me. I don't need a local and remove file browser side by side along with a transfer status view AND a console all in one window... just show me the remote data and a progress bar when things are happening and I'm good.) |

| THanks for the windows 7 network tip big10p, works a treat. Only wish it had image thumbnails for stored images since I have a lot of those on my FTP. |

Yeah, the problem being Windows would have to download all the images to create the thumbnails, and this would need to happen every time you look in a particular folder, in case any of the images had changed.I had hoped there would be an option to just use cached thumbnail images and then just refresh them when need, but this doesn't seem to be possible. You can, of course, simply double click on an image to preview it. |

| lol, you don't even need windows 7. Some guy showed me yesterday that you can just connect to an FTP site using whatever browser, then view and modify the files in windows explorer as long as you have the login name and password :) |

| I only used the Windows 7 example because that's what I'm using. You can also do it in Windows XP but I forget the exact procedure. |
