Dedicated Server with Ubuntu help?

Community Forums/General Help/Dedicated Server with Ubuntu help?

I've rented a Dedicated server.

All I have is Ubuntu installed on it and have full root access. Are there any tutorials for the linux newbie to migrating my website to that server?

It's more difficult than I thought it would be. I have to set up dns myself, mail servers, blah blah and I'm lost like a biddy bug in a big garden. :)

Please help!

I've not tried setting up a server, but if I did I would just start at the beginning, take plenty of time for reading and try to stay calm. :)

Unless both your old and new server use a similar control panel like cpanel , I don't think there's a way to export your old config/settings and import it on the new one...

So especially if you have things that depend on databases on the back-end, moving the site is going to be a fairly involved process...

Ubuntu is quite easy to set up as a server. What do you want it to do?

Don't have the direct link to it here, but google for it. Rackspace Cloud Servers has some nice Ubuntu tutorials on setting up your system.

This may or may not be helpful, it is a small tutorial for making a personal file/mail server out of desktop ubuntu.

My box is also is an apache/sql server too for development purposes, but that is just a case of installing LAMP and following the config instructions which are quite easy going.

This article is pretty cool, I hope it is helpful to you: http://nanotux.com/blog/the-ultimate-server/

Do have a read, it goes from setting up ubuntu, mysql and then email integration with google mail

On a side note, may I ask why you moved to a dedicated server without any prior knowledge on operating it? At least that's the impression I'm getting here. Why didn't you choose for a managed dedicated server? That way you still have a dedicated server, but the company you rent it from is doing the system management.
