Vista IE7 .zip files download problem

Lately, when I try to download a .zip file or similar with IE7 instead of asking for a download location the file just downloads and tries to automatically open.

Any ideas as to why this is and how to return to the old defualt behaviour?

I have checked for virus and spyware but my system seems clean so I must have changed a setting somewhere, although I do not recall doing so.

Thanks for any help,
Jason.

FWIW, my computer started doing the same recently without me making any changes, under Vista 64. Perhaps a windows update did something squirrely?

try looking under explorer->file types/associations (or something like this) and changing the default action for .zip files... but since its on explorer, I really dont know.

I quick fix would be to change to a decent and more secure browser, like Firefox ;)

I'm wondering if you're cache already contains the file you're trying to download? Try clearing your cache and downloading the file again. Does that help?

It's actually a file type setting in Windows

Go to the Control Panel and click on Folder Options.
Click the File Types tab and find the entry for zip files.
Click the Advanced button
Check the box that says Confirm open after download

That's how its done in XP at least. I'm pretty sure it's basically the same in Vista

Thanks for the suggestions all. Still no luck though :(
