I've recently completed my first trimester of a game development course, part of which is to touch on all facets of development including 3DS Max Modeling.

Here is my first character which is the final assessment item:

are you pregnant?

I think it's a good one for starting.. a little bit low-poly, but also kinda funny!

Ruz: are you pregnant?

Are you smooth around the bend?

Ruz(Posted 2009) [#5]
yes:0
its was just a joke BTW, I though it was semester for college students and trimester if you were pregnant?

Flemmonk(Posted 2009) [#6]
ah!

I'm doing a fast tracked course, 2 years, less holidays then normal uni

Looks good! I wish I could model characters. :)

It reminds me of Link. :P

I'm a programmer, but once you get taught how to do it, its easy.

charming how you explained your joke Flemmonk - keep working on those social skills:)
model needs a lot of work, torso too narrow. not bad a for a first try, but I don't think modelling characters is ever easy.
check out this tutorial, you may find it useful

it looks ok, it would look a lot better with hair or a hat.

Flemmonk(Posted 2009) [#11]
Yeah I'm happy with it for a first try.

Ruz I tried joan of arc tutorial, it needs to go into more detail.

I made about 30 character meshes before i was happy with any of them. the trick is getting them to deform well, make a good mesh is easy if you have good reference images but animation is something else. but yes good for a first go.

excelent first model! I noticed he doesnt have ears, you could take it a little further and give him ears, or maybe a hat, like flemmonk said.
