Hello,

Had a bit of free time with the PC last night, and this afternoon (don't usually get much of that these days) so thought I'd try to put together a model from a "miniatures wargame" I've been playing recently called an "Incubus Golgoth". The actual model looks like this:

My model (fairly high poly, not really suitable for a game) looks like this: (8 shots)

I haven't textured it yet (as you can see - although the real model is basically black with a few red decals here and there).
Worked on it from about 8pm - 10pm last night and 3pm - 5:30pm this afternoon). Softimage XSI 5.0 was used to create the model. Having a real plastic model on hand as a reference helps.

Also, here is a zip file of the b3d model, untextured. I may get around to texturing it at some stage.

UH, don't be frustrated, man, it sometimes takes a while...sometimes it doesn't happen at all. Feedback's a bitch, haha!

Anyway, great job! I really like what you've done there! I'd love to see it move, hoping that it takes full advantage of all the hydrolics and such...

I think you should swell the ankles a bit more like they seem to be in the design sketch (or what ever the first image is?). In the b3d model it looks a little too weak there, like it couldn't possibly carry its weight and would have to break the feet off. So rather inflate those roller-ankles or what ever that's called, that connects the feet to the legs.

Just my two cents. But overall, very brute and aggressive! Good job!

nice model :)

what modeling software did you use ?

great model.

now let's see textures ;)

Nicely styled robot critter, this. Good work.

Not sure about the "curvy bits" on the legs, though - I think that they could do with tweaking and the a few carefully placed extra polygons to help smooth out the curves.

Looks great.

You know it would be perfect for a tech demo, if you fancied doing that. I mean texture it, but then give it a simple low-poly environment and then just go all out on shadows and special effects, glow, depth of field, bloom, whatever you like best, and make it a technical showcase. It'd be a really nice thing to put in your portfolio then.

Yeah, back a few months maybe longer, i said i do some models for you, Quite a few things stopped me doing that including having to change jobs. But one of my main problems was that i didnt think my models were good enough that you wouldnt have been happier using your own models. I think you just proved me right, that model is amazing i love the design is it based on anything?

I have learn not to say I will do anything for people i cant now.

What are the white sections on the first image?

Looks good!

Thanks for the feedback,

Hi ford escort - Softimage XSI (Version 5.0)

I think I rushed the legs a little, but could go back and put a few more polygons in, round them out a bit more.

Gabriel - tech demo sounds like a good idea, but a lot of those effects you mention I've not used, would it be something
done in Blitz3d (I don't really have a portfolio I just make these types of things for fun) - I might give it a go though.

Hi Pete, don't worry about it, the model is based off a plastic wargaming piece - featured in the card displayed at the top of the thread,
I find it much easier to work from a plan than doing something 'from my imagination'.

Plash - the white sections are little boxes on the 'card' to allow damage to be marked off.

I might have a go at making something similar again some time in the near future, perhaps.
