bear in mind that this is my first anim in 3 years.

t3K|Mac(Posted 2008) [#2]
is this your 5k poly character? anim looks great btw.

GfK(Posted 2008) [#3]
Reminds me of the T1000 running after John Connor in Terminator 2.

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#4]
cheers t3K|Mac
this is the base guy that I am building all the other stuff from.
he is around 5k I think, probably a bit more.
any suggestions for more anims?

I have done a run and walk so far

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#5]
yeah GFK it s a little contrived looking right now and its hard to get that natural movement going, but its a good place to start and I will be digging out my animation books again this afternoon:)

walk cycle

t3K|Mac(Posted 2008) [#7]
you think we can see the animation from inside a b3d exe?

anims look great in the modeller, but do they in b3d?

ruz, i think you have a customer ;)

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#8]
yup will do that later today. I can preview them in max with the B3d pipeline max plugin.

Reactor(Posted 2008) [#9]
Looks good, but I'd add some smoothness (or slowdown) to when he changes the direction of his limbs.

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#10]
yeah i am struggling with the overlap motions a bit. got to do some more reading up on the subject

KillerX(Posted 2008) [#11]
It shows
This video has been removed by the user.
When I try to view the second video.

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#12]
oops i will reupload tomorrow. i did some better version you see

plash(Posted 2008) [#13]
Looks to me like his legs don't move far enough (first video) - like a half-step.

Retimer(Posted 2008) [#14]
any suggestions for more anims?

walking
running
jumping upward, forward and backward
grabbing a ledge
climbing a wall
falling
landing after a fall
diving
swimming [each direction]
pulling out guns , putting them back
aiming those guns
picking up objects
opening doors
pulling switches
etc

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#15]
cheers retimer.
suppose also

running with pistol
running with pistol firing
walking with gun aimed
walking with gun firing
strafe left strafe right
static repeat firing etc
running jump
various dying seqences

so many to do really
i think I will just have big gun and little gun ie rifle variants and pistols or I will be on forever:)

Ross C(Posted 2008) [#16]
I think in the animation , he needs to move his shoulders more. Cracking looking though! Keep up the great work :o)

scribbla(Posted 2008) [#17]
i may be wrong here but having an anim for every move is going to be awkward to sync up in code

say hes walking with pistol
then walking with pistol firing wont you have to get the exact frame the anim is at walk with pistol to walk with pistol firing or the anim wont be in sync

the way i did it was to split the mesh into two torso and legs, parent them up in blitz and then whether hes walking running or whatever just animate the torso to suit this way the walk/run anims are in sync

like i said i may be wrong ;)

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#18]
I am kind of gonna copy the way they did it in unreal tournament.
having 'big gun' and 'small gun encompasses most of the weapons available.
It would be nice to have the torso seperate , but its simpler for me to do it the other way really. we will see.
i have to get them looking proper first. its harder than it seems:)
Ross C - yeah the run is loads better now, the walk seems like the hardest to do

scribbla I am sure there is a way around this. we managed fine with the anims in skinny bob, but its a long time ago now, forgotten what we did he he.

I think its a case of blending from the frame you are at to the anim required, so it won't suddenly jump to the right anim.

xlsior(Posted 2008) [#19]
Reminds me of the T1000 running after John Connor in Terminator 2.

That was my first thought too -- I think it's the somewhat robotic/unnatural movement of the arms.

It does look impressive, though.

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#20]
I think i missed out a lot of the overlapping motion, thats why they look a little stiff. working on it now.

Reactor(Posted 2008) [#21]
What program are you making it in?

t3K|Mac(Posted 2008) [#22]
we also did a split between torso and legs, just like scribbla. i don't think there is another good and easy way in dx7 b3d.
so maybe you think about it ruz ;)

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#23]
will look in to the technical side of it soon.
just gotta get to the required standard first:)

Volker(Posted 2008) [#24]
any suggestions for more anims?

What about a "hot coffee" version?

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#25]
sorry you lost me there Volker:)

EDIT ah you mean GTA style. well no full on nudity I am afraid, just action man style:)

Volker(Posted 2008) [#26]
well no full on nudity I am afraid, just action man style:)

No problem. If there is a female version; I will ask again.

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#27]
yes the female version is on the way:)

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#28]
just to mention that I have got two freelance contracts on the go, so i will be a bit delayed getting this stuff finished.

Panno(Posted 2008) [#29]
wow looks cool esp. walk6

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#30]
cheers Panno, I am improving a little i think

Ross C(Posted 2008) [#31]
Very nice man. Looks ace :o) Nice little swagger too. Good stuff, looks really pro.

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#32]
cheers RossC, yeah had to break off to do some paying work.

good fun really though I had to learn a load of new stuff really quickly.

freelancing is like that, jumping in to other peoples piplelines and such.

ImaginaryHuman(Posted 2008) [#33]
It looks pretty nice. I think the length of the stride is a little too short, it makes it seem like he's halfway between running and jogging but without quite the level of muscle tension for either. Also the forearms/wrists/hands are too stiff, they need a bit of floppiness. I think also you need to push the chest out a bit and move the shoulders back a tad.

Ruz(Posted 2008) [#34]
cheers for the crit ImaginaryHuman
hopefully I will have time to get back to this soon
